Another brake question...

Okay, my searches didn't turn up anything of value and my head aches from reading other forums and sites. So here goes..

On my 85 TC Bird.. I have an 8.8. in it an I am converting to rear disks. I have the adapter plate, shield, caliper and rotor for each side. I also have two pieces that have a U bolt that goes to the rear end tube and matches up to the brake caliper mounting holes. I thought I was installing everything correctly but my rotor doesn't push on the hub all the way. It's as if my calipers aren't mounted correctly. Anyone have any ideas? I am sure its simple but I figured someone has run into this already.

Another question in my search for parts and I may as well ask now..

For now I have stock 92 Mustang calipers and rotors up front and now I am installing rear disks from a 95GT. What MC and Brake booster will work well? I have a cam that only makes about 11in of vac on a good day and I do NOT care about the sensor on the MC as my dash face is made out of aluminum and I do not have a stock gauge set up. I was going to do like Gumby and use the sn95 MC and Brake booster together as one unit but on my 85 I wasn't 100% sure this will all work together.

Thanks for the help again...

What is the 8.8 from?  What axles?  What disks?  Is this 4 or 5-lug? (You have 92 (4-lug) up front and 95 (5-lug) out back)

Pics?

what chuck said. then we can work from there.

sounds like the sn95 booster/MC will work for you with the rear discs. you might also check out http://www.sn95brakes.com to help make sure it will "feel" the way you want it to.

Ah, I just figured you guys were mind readers!  (j/k) Okay, the rear started out as 4 lug and I believe from a Mustang. It had longer 4 lug axles and rear drum brakes when I bought it in 93.

I had Moser make some 4 lug SN95 length axles. (if I had the insight I would have left them as 5 lug) Anyway, I took them out and put some V6 axles from a 94 Mustang in the rear. Everything fit except the brake hub.I could never find one to fit with the depth that was needed.

So what I have now is 95GT rear disk brakes and 94 V6 axles (28spline) On the front I have what I believe is calipers from a 92 Mustang and the 5 lug front rotors I bought from a company (years ago)

I have another question about the front but i will muddle through this one first. Thanks for the help guys... Almost forgot, I will get some pics shortly...

From the information given, it sounds like the rear stuff should work w/o issue.  The 94 and 95 stuff is the same, so I don't see why the rotor won't fit.

Well I will have to take a few pics afterwork tomorrow. I am sure I put something on backwards. The rotor doesn't seem to push all the way on the hub. The way I have it now is...

the rear housing---the backing plate attached to it. Then the caliper. The caliper mounting bolt goes from inside to outside an screws though the backing plate to the caliper with the rotor in between. Now with it like that the rotor contacts the backing plate.

The other piece I am kinda unsure about is the metal bracket with two holes in it that bolts on with a U bolt. (I don't know what to call it) I have the U bolt mounted through the quad shock area and it sits flush to the backing plate. Sorry my explanation isn't the greatest. I will try to get some pics to look at in the daylight.

Sounds right, but without pics it's hard to say.

The other bracket is called an "anti-moan" bracket.  It is just a brace, but something you shousl use.

Okay, I would have posted pics earlier but I have been a bit under the weather these last few days... I took a few today but the quality wasn't that great, If you can't make out the issues or need a different angle let me know and I will take more tomorrow.

Update...I can't figure out how to make the pics small enough to work...Still working on it..

what is the 8.8 housing from? does that even matter?

the pics look like everything is assembled in the proper order. makes the axles look too short for some reason. unless there is a longer 8.8 housing out there...

edit* oops, i see where the housing came from. now im confused....

can you get a measurement from the quad bracket to the outter ? i looked at mine here(87 TC 8.8) and it looks closer(shorter) than your pics

Excellent! now I am not alone. The housing is the same length as my 92 Mustangs 8.8.. The axles in the T-Bird are longer.

, im lost then. the mustang length housing should accept sn95 length axles and brakes w/o any issues.

You don't have the brackets mounted on the axle housing on the wrong side do you?

As he mentioned, the 8.8 should accept the SN-95 brakes and axles without an issue.
