center consoles

I don't like the 1/2 console in my 86, i am curious if it can be disconnected from the driver's seat and removed. also, once removed, would a full console fit in the spot.  my seats are fine with good upholstery, and i see no reason to replace them if not needed.
any ideas?

I cut my half console off years ago and installed a full length console and factory floor shifter.Love it.

I got lucky when I did mine.  I was fortunate enough to have a plain seat-base to use in place of the one with the console welded to it.
