Custom fabbing my own center console out of fiberglass.

Here's the skinny folks. I have a 93 Cougar and i'm tired of having no cupholders and the DIN Taurus option just doesn't appeal to me. So i'm going to fab my own out of fiberglass, using the original console to make the actual mold. It'll be a two step process. First make the mold, then the console. I'll keep posting with the details, and if it works i'll make more upon request. Maybe even add ports for things like ipods or whatever. And if it works, you 87-88 guys could mail me an original console and i'll make one for you too. Gimme your opinions and ideas!

Not a bad idea,as long as it looks factory (in my own opinion).I wouldn't want a glossy console.Show us your console when you get it finished and let the results speak for themselves. There are Fox body consoles on E-bay quite often. You may want to invest in one to use as your mold. Most people will want to see one before they purchase one.Good luck.

Of course. I wouldn't expect any less. I plan on putting the cup holder where the ashtray is since i don't smoke, thus making that a big useless space. If i do end up producing more of these, i'd only bondo and primer them to leave the color up to you to match it to your car. My dad suggested using gnurled rosewood instead, but that would be expensive as hell and if you sand too far, the whole thing would be s.

Now this cup holder has to hold a Double Big Gulp.......Think it will work? LOL
I have seen the Taurus Din style but never knew it would work.Has anyone done that cup holder and have pics?I usually just open up the console and put my cup there. Kinda inconvienient but what else do you do?

Saw a "cup and food holder" thing at walmart yesterday. it straps around your headrests and hangs off the back, and even has a tray. if i get these for passengers i'll have to say "We're arriving at our destination, please make sure your seats and tray tables are in the upright position." every time i get to where i'm going!

A friend of mine actually suggested i cut the ashtray out into the proper size hole, and stick those little rubber cupholder things out of a new F-Series truck in there instead. Obviously an idiot.:slap:

Bad news on the custom console.

As i mentioned in a thread i posted a few minutes ago, the 93 cougar died on me, and i replaced it with a 95. The 95 has a totally different console so obviously my need for the part has disappeared. Although i would like better ones in the 95 than those goofy flop down cupholders under the console lid.

So if you want those cup holders get you the top cover for the center console from a 97 they have cup holders in them. It gets rid of the ash tray and the little things they call coin holders. It put to cup holders where the ash try and coin holders are. Then at the front edge it has a much nicer coin holder.  You will have to cut out some of the Heater tube that runs inside the console to make it fit right. I put on in my 94 and it is much nicer that the 94 piece.

That would be the one. You can take out those black cup things and use brake fluid to strip off the tan if you need a different color. That Dupli color vinyl/fabric paint stuff it works real nice.

That would be the perfect idea and grats to you for finding it. but thats where my factory style (in the coinholder slot) foglight switch is. although if you have ideas on where to move that switch to, i'm all ears.
