Door Glass dropped!

Have an 87 bird and put the window down a bit today, upon putting it up it deciced to drop all the way into the door. I assumed it was probably off the track so I removed the panel and insulation and sure enough the 2 attatching point have come loose from the window glass. Since it is snowing here and not wanting the window down I filled the clip up with some silicone and stuck the glass back in place. I am atleast able to keep the window up but was curious as to what the correct fix for this is. Thanks Dan

I've heard of a hundred different fixes.I've tried silicones, epoxy and others. Finally,I found an epoxy stick (you break a piece off, kneed it until the color is uniform, and then apply it) made for marine use. It's white in color and it's held my passenger window for 3 years now.I pulled the window out of the door, sanded the contact areas for the epoxy stick to adhere to,and got a razor blade and removed the material from the window clips.,then sanded the inside of the clips the best I could.I put a good piece of the adhesive in each of the clips, then pressed the window into it and raised the window up and let it sit for 24 hours. It's been great, and I got the product from a Wal-Mart store. It is weather and water proof.Good luck.

I had to get new window clips and while I was at the auto glass place I was able to pick up a tube of urathane adhesive, it is suppost to be the best stuff, but I didn't apply it right and my pass. That and the adhesive was sat to long. window came off again. :beatyoass:

which every you choose to fix it, just make sure that the contact points are clean and preped right.

Here's the deal with 87/88 windows. For general info purposes these windows dont ride in "tracks". There are 2 "clips that are epoxied onto the bottom of the window. each one has a stud coming off of it that goes into the scissor mechanism (regulator) and is secured with a nut.

What generally happens is the clip actually breaks off of the bottom of the glass and stays secured to the regulator. I had to get new glass because there was a chunk of glass missing where a new clip would go. You might get lucky and just have the end of the plastic tab(s) broken off.

*Edit* but you knew this already... heheh...

Anyway, I just so happen to have a picture of a passenger side window that I scored at the wrecking yard...

*Edit* I read your post again and realized I missed the part about your tabs being intact. I'll leave this up anyway, might help someone else... I realy need to learn to read posts better, lol!

iv had the same thing like everyone else hear happen at least 8 times... over the corse of 5 years... iv tried every dam glue known to man. best stuff i used lasts about a year and a half (found it at a body shop store). like mensioned before, the glass must be perfect for you to glue again. also, mine is currently off again... i am going to use my glass cutter and score the hell out of the bottom to give it something to bite onto and drill 2 small holes in the plastic clip to let some glue squirt out and insure compleat contact inside the clip. i hope this lasts longer... we'll see tho.

Someone else had previously mentioned Gorilla Glue and had a lot of success with it. If I had to do that again, I'd probably try using that vs. the money spent at the glass shop ($25 for the glue job, and $50 for new aluminum clips).

I used 150 grit automotive sandpaper to prep the window, and the same for the clips after I removed the old adhesive.Like I said,3 years without a problem.

Went to Wal-Mart found the Marine Epoxy stick came home removed the door panel and glass and could not get the clips off. I guess my temporary repair was a bit better than temp. Oh well ready when/if it happens again
