strange new noise October 13, 2006, 08:53:27 PM car is making a noise that kind of combines a ticking and rattle at the same time, it is an 87 tbird v6, only does it when turning the steering wheel at certain points but not always the same points, i no it is NOT the the same whining grinding noise of a bad pump cause it does that every once and a while too Quote Selected
strange new noise Reply #1 – November 02, 2006, 02:03:54 AM ill also guess it happens when you are turning and it just so happens your not really going fast either.Id remove the two screws holding the coolant fill tank. undo all the vac lines going to the electrical emissions solenoids. Get a can of wd40 and use the little red tube to stick up inside each nipple and apply a small bit a wd40. this may lubricate up the solenoid that is chattering. air and vac lines sometimes like a little wd in order to lube things up. when you start up your car, the red vac line will pull vac on each of the solenoids. when the solenoid is energized by the eec, it will open up the "door" in the solenoid and allow the lube to pass thru the passage.if it it goes away, you found your problem.,,if it comes back then lub up one solenoid at a time and eliminate which one it is. its probably the one associated with the orange vac line.when you are turning your wheel left or right, that takes power from the engine, and, if it just so happens that you are not really accelerating greatly, the eec is trying to compensate for the power steering causing power loss and it just so happens that there is not enough vac presure as a result in slight engine power loss.
