What is up with this place?

It seems to me that if someone doesn't  like a thread they go and get someone to lock it.  I thought that we were here to help each other and not dog on each other. But it always seems that people disagree and then the thread ends up locked. I undestand that not everyone is going to like eveythings other have to say but don't people have the right to have and opinion. Or is this a comunist board where they cut you off because they don't agree with what you say or want to read it. You always have the right to look at other threads. I know I know this is gonna end up locked too.  But is there any reason that makes logical sense as to why they lock these threads. I can see if they are out right cursing or somthing like that. But what is the point to lock it if people are arguing. Isn't arguing part of life. Maybe we should just disband the board because we don't like what other have to say or someone disagrees with someone else. It all boils down to freedom of thought and everyone has that. I guess people should stop puppiesg on others just because they disagree but we all know that isn't going to happen RIGHT! So to all those that wanna reply do so or go ahead and lock this thread too. Atleast I had a chance to vent what is bouncing around in my head about this.  So if you are a mod/member and feel like it or plan ole don't like me or my ideas do what you gotta do. But I suspect very soon that everythread will be locked and there will be no point to this place or anyone helping anyone. Once again I bet I'am asking for it but I'm a big boy and I can take it.

I agree. To me it seems certain comments tick people off, but some people have been taking way too seriously. To each his own. Everyone has their own opinion. Im here for the long run, let people say what they want, just act like adults in the process.

I'm probably partly responsible for the big lock-fest that happened over the last 24 hours.  I had second guessed replying to TurboChicken's thread but only commenting about the speed, but I did it anyway.  Once he replied back that he doesn't do that sort of driving on public roads, I issued no further comment in regards to the speed.  I've PMed him regarding that post.  On a side note, what really doesn't compute, for me anyway, is that I've spoken with said thread starter at CJ and was able to maintain a civil exchange of dialog.  Oh well.

Now, why there were two separate new threads made calling out people's usernames and requesting bans?  I don't know.  But I think personal issues being discussed that way is the reason for the ban of those two threads.  As for the 'Overspeed' thread, well... it derrailed into hell.  I would've PMed the starter of those threads to try and discuss it, but was unable to.

The locks/bans on this board have significantly increased with the upgrade to the new server/software (remember slEZ-Board?).  Probably because it's easier for trollish people to get in.  Don't get me wrong.  I am NOT suggesting:

a.) We go back to EZ Board.
b.) Anyone involved in today's blitzkrieg was trolling.  Just conflicting opinions and fevered egos.

I've seen boards a LOT worse than this one.  Something like one lock every week or couple days or more.  The only one we've had for a long while before this one was only done at the request of the original poster and wasn't mandated by moderators.  I dunno... I would definitely not call this a communist board, though.  I've seen places where folks who post topics in the wrong sections more than twice are banned.  Yeah.  Let's count our blessings here.

I wasn't saying that this a comunist board just using that comment for the Shock effect.

All the info you need is right here: http://www.foxtbirdcougarforums.com/showthread.php?t=2

Pay particular attention to rule #6 *edit* I can't believe I didnt use this smily: :rules:

Eric, Baxo and myself put up with a lot, and nobody could ever accuse this board of being over-moderated, but we do have our limits. When discussions devolve to a certain point those limits are exceeded (or the thread starter requests that the thread is closed) and the thread is closed. We generally do not take any sides, and we take no further action. Bannings are extremely rare around here - so rare in fact that I think the only members in the official shiznitlist are there for spamming. We try to maintain the civility this board has always had (and we've been proud of), and the only way to do so is douse the flames before the fire gets out of hand. If the people involved in the flame wars want to carry on their silliness they can do so in private messaging.

That was hilarious! all I suggested was the user fill out their personal info as should everyone else on the board, at the very least a country and age should be there.

I just sit back and enjoy the ride, no point in wasting life arguing about nonsense, I just read along and laugh.

Life is what you make it, and i'm making mine a fair ride!

Oh and I dont believe this board or the old one has ever been over moderated.

IMHO the moderators around here do an excellent job

If you wana see overmoderated go to hotrodders.com, you cant say 'boo' over there without having your post edited because it might scare somebody.

I thought he was kidding about banning you.  If not, then it all went over my head.

Ahh, yes, the request for banning. When we, the administrators, see one member calling for the banning of another member, we do one thing:

We ignore it.

We and we alone decide who is and who isn't banned. We may or may not even acknowledge a complaint against another member. We don't accept suggestions on who to ban and who to let stay. If a thread is brought to our attention we will take appropriate action (or no action at all, our choice). I think in the few years this board has been online one, maybe two, legitimate users have been banned, and belive me, they really, REALLY deserved it if they got it. Spammers are open season, of course :beatyoass:

I think this board is very clean and civil, and that is why this is the only one I've joined. And while people do have a right to opinons, they need to remember that not everyone agrees, so they will catch some flak.  Just reply civily and move on.  And if the Morderators do lock it, they have a good reason.

Believe me, this place is No communist board. There may be a few liberals around here, but communist? No.

Maybe because I haven't around long enough, but there does not seem to be a lot of lockings going on.

From my own personal experience, I used to post (and still do from time to time) on a very large message board, huge would be a better word to use. This place had lockings every single day, on an almost hourly basis. Hundreds of forums, moderators galor, and chaos.

I posted on those boards starting in late 2002. At the time, the place was relatively small compared to now. And therefore, the bannings, locking of threads, and other problems were minimal. There was a sense of community, very much like these boards. They were still small enough that you generally knew everyone. Over the course of the past 4 years, the place Boomed, and I mean, BOOMED. Like, from a couple hundred members, to THOUSANDS.

This place really reminds me of those boards when I started posting there. There is a sense of community, and everyone generally knows the other members. And there are few problems.

Now, will this place explode in population like the boards I mentioned? I don't know. All I do know is that right now, in it's current state, I wouldn't worry too much about the current goings-on. A few years down the road....who knows?

I can't see our population suddenly exploding unless somebody finds a hidden cache of for T-Birds and Cougars. Possibly the only advantage to being devoted to 20+ year old cars :cougarsmily::birdsmily:

Go over to some of the Neon boards I go to if you wanna see bad flame wars.  They LOVE to reply with "USE THE SEARCH" comment.  A whole lot of 'sell your car and buy a honda' replies to technical questions.  And the very worst thing is, in my opinion, is when someone's bold enough to post pictures of thier car.  I've not once seen a picture post thread where a car didn't get critcized.  And I'm not talking "I'd do this different..."  I'm talking:  "Change this, this, and that".  Then again, I guess those are the sort of things you open yourself up to when you post pictures online.
