window things

ok... dont remember watcha call em.. but they go on the windows of driver and passenger door... and when u have the windows cracked it helps prevent air coming through the window.  i was wondering if they make these for 83-86 tbirds/cougars? if so where? and if anyone doesnt know what im talkin about... i do.. i just dont remember what they are called.

VentVisors..or VentGards, or...somethin like that...yeah, they're available, but hard to find...I saw some on ebay awhile back...but they were for '87-'88 cars...not so sure about the older ones.

Those would be wind deflectors/air deflectors/rain deflectors/ventshades. There are companies that make them for the Cougar/T-bird, you'd have to hunt for them.

I'll make one recommendation on them though:  DON'T DO IT!!!

I had them on my Ranger and the were INCREDIBLY noisy. At even 45mph the wind noise was defening if you had the window cracked. If you smoke, even worse idea, had many butts come back in on me. Also broke both of them one winter sing ice off the side windows. Honestly more pain in the ass than they're worth.

I think they look good, especially on a lighter colored car, but as far as functionality, well, after I had some on my f150, i wasn't so impressed.

I love 'em so much I had 'em on my '88 Cougar, '87 Sport and '88 T-Bird. They don't make any noise for me, but I drive with the windows up and the A/C on anyway. They're great for parking the car - you can leave the windows down a crack without fear of rain.

I also had 'em on my Dakota and Cherokee - neither vehicle was air conditioned but I didn't notice any extra noise. Could be that both vehicles were as aerodynamic as cinder blocks, though...

The 1983-86 Ventvisors are stainless steel....that's probably why you're having a tough time finding them. I'm pretty sure you can use the acrylic 1987-88 ones on a 1983-86 car though.

The ventshade book at work only list the black plastic ones for 87-88 like already mentioned. But they also offer them for the 83-86 in stainless like already mentioned but the stainless are only for the cars with vent windows. Atleast so says the book. I'll get some part numbers and post them here. 12207 seems to be the number for the cars with vent windows in stainless only.  Also I have a set on my jeep and they don't make any noise. but I have had some cig butts come back in. Also I looked into this before and someone on here had already used the 87-88 plastic ones on a 83-86 sand siad they worked fine.

VentVisors are the old-style stainless ones for older cars.  I used to have a NOS set of those for my LTD.  Should've taken 'em off before I junked it.  it.

The newer ones are called VentShades because of thier tinted apperance.  They can sometimes look good when they're color matched, too.

ah ic... thanks yall.. i havnt had much of a problem wtih them on my buddies ranger when we smoke... we just roll window down n toss the butt then roll er back up. i seem to have more butt problems when i dont have the ventshades..  also i would be painting these when the cougar gets painted.  btw..... there is NO difference in the window area on 87-88 tbirds/cougars vs the 83-86 right? i know there is an extra body line above the window on one vehicle

I know the visors on my car actually mount inside the window track, which is different from the visors I've had on other vehicles. I am pretty sure the 83-86 has the same basic shape (87-88 doors will bolt on to an 83-86 but will look stupid), but it's not flush fitting glass like the 87-88.

I had the smoked plastic VentShades on my '88 XR7. I loved them, actually. They didn't make any noise, and they were great for those years when I smoked in the car.
