Blower Motor Questions

I have an 88 Cougar with the Electronic Climate Control.  Today I noticed my fan was barely blowing when it's on high.  On low it seems to be the same speed.  I figure it's probably the blower resitor.  I found it behind the glove box.  The thing is, it looks different then the one I have seen posted on here for an 84 cougar, and it's different than the one in my repair manual.  It has 3 screws to hold it in, and a HUGE heatsink, when I pull it out.  It looks like I need to pull the dash back to remove it completely, because the bar that the glove box attached to is in the way when I pull it out.  Has anyone else run into this?  I have had the dash apart before to change the heater core, but I'm not looking forward to doing it again.  Also, if it turns out to be the fan (which I will have to pull the dash for anyway I think) then is there a difference in blower motors from the manual and auto climate control??

Thanks,
Chris

The heatsink is to cool the transistor which was used instead of a resistor.
The motor has two wires and accepts 12v for full speed.
Connect the fan directly to the battery if it goes full speed its the regulator thats a problem.
I think its the same fan in all models.
The housing is plastic mine was deformed by years of heat so it slowed the blade cage down.
A little muscle and a hairdryer put it back in shape.

There are only two tools you will ever need:
1) WD40
2) Duct Tape
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.
