Had one of those "Whoa" moments...

So, two days ago I get up like every other normal day to go to work. I leave the house at around 6am and start the commute. I'm driving the T-bird. I hit a red light at a nearby intersection and stop. As I'm sitting there a guy driving an 87-88 Cougar pulls up beside me. The car was Black, possibly an LS model due to it's Wirelocking Wheel covers. It was in good condition with the exception of some paint peeling and the right-rear wheelcover was missing.

So, I glance over at the car and the guy looks over at me. His eyes open up wide. He knew...

So, as I start looking forward I hear a horn honk. It's the guy next to me. He's trying to get my attention. I roll down my window, and he does the same.

The first thing out of his mouth was, "What year is your car?". So I shout back "87". The guy nods favorably. He mutters something that was unintelligible.  I think he said what year his was.

At that point he said "Nice wheels. I've been looking for a set like that for ages. Always wanted those kind of wheels.". He was refering to my 8-holes. So, I shouted back, "What kinda engine you got in that thing?". And he says "5.0. High Output....Ooooh Right....Gigity Gigity Gigity." (Family guy nonsense)

So, I asked him if he dropped it in and he said "Nope. Special factory order. Oooh Yeah!" At that point I knew he was B.S.ing me, but I played along and nodded my head.

Finally, the light turned green and I simply shouted back "Nice car. Hang on to it!" and I drove off.

But, the encounter left me thinking all day. It was the first time I actually encountered someone who knew (pretended to anyway) about my car. I had run into people in auto stores and whatnot, but never on the street.

Anyone else car to share similar stories? Moments where you actually thought there was someone else out there in the world who knew about our cars?

(Looked Like this, but black)

I had a similar encounter here last sumemr, but it was with a guy in full on leather riding gear on a Harley.  He pulled up next to me and started asking me all sorts of questions and then said that he had one when he was in college and always wanted to find another to play with.  Pretty odd experience.

Those are the same people who know a guy who's cousin has a '91 Crown Vic Police Interceptor with AWD, TurboCharged 460, four-wheel steering, side curtain airbags, bulletproof glass, stab-proof seats and 2 cigarette lighters.

He was making a left turn, so calling him out wouldn't have done any good. I just couldn't get over his "Gigity Gigity Gigity" . Hell, for all I know he had a V6 in the thing.

That reminds me of this time I was coming from the parts store, riding down 8 Mile (the safe part :D) and this mirror copy TC of TCR (save for wheels, he had turbines... mine where in the back seat and trunk) is rolling the opposite way. Me and the other driver where staring in amazement at each other's cars. I thought about turning about to catch him but by then he was out of sight.

So I go home swap on the Turbines and run to the store to air them up. I can't stand the stock lug nuts to I make a run to Murray's (on 8 mile) to get a new set. The store was swamped with people so I didn't stay long... soon as I get to the exit in my car, that white TC pulls up next to me. The driver and passenger give me the thumbs up and take off. I follow them to a car wash and we chew the fat for a bit. We couldn't believe how identical the cars were. Turns out they were really cool guys, to this day I cannot believe I didn't get their contact info. :dunce:

Generally the only comments I got in darkthunder where "Nice wheels... uh, what kinda car is that?".

Similar happened to me. After leaving Cat Jam back in '02, we went to the Dayton area to visit my wifes dad. When we were gasing up getting ready to head home, a Harley guy says "that sure doesn't sound like a 4 cyl". He had never owned a TC but was somewhat knowledgeable about Tbirds. We talked TCs a few minutes and went our seperate ways...

Here in Green bay I have yet to talk to anyone about my car other then the autozone guy...and a dumbass ricer at work who thinks his riced out cavalier is faster.  However I do get looks pretty much everytime I drive somewhere.  Those,"nice, what kind of car is that?" look....plus I have yet to see a cougar or bird older then 90 in this area.

There's a guy here in town who has a black TC with 4-lug Cobra R's. It used to be silver.

I finally met him in a parking lot a couple weeks ago. I said hey have you seen the other one around here that looks just like that except its silver? He sais, yeah, that was mine. I just painted it:dunce:

I tried to get more from him but he was on the bluetooth and well I didn't want to hang around and linger like a tbird stalker for him to get off the phone so I left.

I happenstance caught a guy in the walmart parking lot who was getting into a TC too and I chatted him up a little bit and he said he's got another one at home he'll be pulling the drivetrain out of and putting it into this one. We went on a little bit about how tbirds are better than mustangs... ya know, longer, nicer, more comfotable, etc...

I gave him my number and I took his. I told him about my cougar and he'd have to check it out some time and for him to call me when he's done with that TC carcass and maybe I can salvage some stuff but of course neither one of us have kept in touch.

I did meet a guy at a car meet who's into MN12's with a passion though. He loves SC's and owns 2 of them, and a 90 XR7 SC which is his baby. The guy is a true tbird/cougar fan-nut-tic every bit as much as we are and a pretty cool guy. We hang out every now and then. Its only too bad he doesn't really like foxes.
