Auto Antenna September 11, 2006, 03:25:58 PM I noticed a few days ago that my automatic antenna won't go down all the way. It gets to the last little section and stops. So I was wondering if it is alright to push it down manually or should I not worry about it or maybe even try to fix it? Quote Selected
Auto Antenna Reply #1 – September 11, 2006, 03:42:04 PM First thing to do: put it all the way up and lubricate the entire mast. WD-40 is okay...graphite is okay also. Then see if it retracts all the way. If not, do NOT force it or you could break something.Possible culprits: stripped teeth on the mast, bad power antenna motor mechanism. Or...bad switch. I know it sounds funky but it can definitely happen (just happened to me, in fact). Quote Selected

Auto Antenna Reply #7 – September 16, 2006, 01:46:58 AM You have to remove, or at least partially remove the wheel well lining to get at the inside of the fender. The chrome piece on top of the fender is the only thing holding the antenna up, and then you just either have to pull the wires from behind the dash or cut them and crimp the new ones on. I have problems with my raise/lower motor and I thought about replacing it before so I took it apart to see how hard it was. But I had just planned on cutting the wires and crimping the new ones back on. It shouldnt take any longer than an hour. Quote Selected
Auto Antenna Reply #8 – September 16, 2006, 08:42:54 AM I woud like to know how you are going to crimp that antenna signal wire back together. I don't think that it would work very good. And also in my 84 there was a bolt in the bottom of the antenna motor holding it to the car also. As for the mast replacement you have to take the top part of and pull you the antenna then pull out the ould one and put in the new. I think you have to use the motor to push the old part and and pull then new part into it. I haven't don't it but I looked into it awhile back just haven't got it donw yet. Quote Selected
