No headlights?

Today I left fwork at lunch time and came home. It was clouding up and getting dark. So I turn on the headlights but only the dash lights and the parking lights come on. WTF? Where are my headlights? I quick flip the dimmer just to check and see if it maybe just stuck or something. Nope still no headlights. This is very wierd. Just last night I drove the car was ouy until 1:30am and had lights the whole time. Didn't use the lights on the way to work so didn't know if the would have worked then. Any way I was thinking that maybe it is just a Fuseable link. Couldn't find a fuse for them so thinking they are on a link, I did find a fuse for the parking lights. So does anyone know if they have a fuseable link for them. Also if so what would be the recomended fuse size just to put a big fuse in there instead fo the link wire style setup.

There is a circuit breaker built into the headlight switch.  That could have gone south.  You may need a new headlight switch.

Also the multifunction (turn signal dimmer combo) switch being bad could cause this.

Well the headlight swtich is only 2 mos old but it is possible. But then again the running lights come on.  Also the dimmer/combo switch is only  1yr old but also never know. Both are Borg Warner brand products. Is there a relay in the headlight wiring. Chiltons has shiznit in way to headlight wiring info. Gonna have to go dig out the Haynes to see what they say. Any way thanks for the Ideas.

From the '84 shop manual:

When you pull back on the dimmer switch stalk it should light the high beams. This is the flash to pass feature. This circuit is seperate from the main light switch. Fuse 16 a 20amp fuse protects this circuit.

There is no relay in the headlight circuit. Power to the headlight switch is hot all the time through an 18 gauge red fuse link. This same fuse link also powers the EEC.

If the built-in breaker in the HL switch is blown and fuse 16 is blown it suggests an overload on the high beam light circuit.
Is this a four eye?  Are they stock headlights?

Wouldn't the flash to pass be for the turn signals when you flip them on but don't put them all the way into the locked position. Any how In my haynes manual it say the fuse link is black and orange for the headlight fuse link.  But like they know WTF they are talking about. The problem I'm having is NO headlights PERIOD. Even on high beam  The running lights work and so do the parking lights.  Also no fog lights.  I'm off the next 2 days so I'll get it figured out.  Yes it is a four eyed bird, yes they are factory replacements the silverstar ones.

The '84 EVTSM has no info on running lights. I guess 84's didn't have them.

The headlight switch breaker being blown will keep the fog lights from working.

For the flash to pass you pull back on the stalk like you are switching from hi to low or low to hi beams. Before you get to the point where it clicks the high beams should light.
If they don't check fuse 16.

Well so far I've double checked all the fuse links(good) and all the fuses(good). I pulled the headlight switch. and put back in the factory unit that I replaced trying to find another problem. Still no headlights. I was wondering if there is a way that I have no headlights becasue of the dimmer going south? I think I had the problem before. I also think it is under waranty. Any how I'm taking a break before I put the headlight swtich back in. I do know that the there is power to the switch for the running lights they work gonna go get a test light and a repalcement dimmer.

I went back out there and put the headlight switch back in. Then I turned my attenetion to the dimmer switch. Had power going into but none comeing out. I pull the switch and then the lights worked. WTF. So I did some more ivestigateing and found that the factory clip wasn't making good connection to the spade goinginto the switch. I just cut it off and put in a regular stye push on conector and all was good.

Yes the flash to pass work now. Also it is a 84 T/C. Mine has theauto on/off headlights but that part does't work anymore. I was hopeing to find out why today but it started raining as I was putting the dimmer switch back in so some other time. As long as the headlights work for now.
