Not something you get to drive everyday

I'm just curious why the owner would drop off a car like that for 3 days for work that can be done in an hour.

My guess is it would make sense that someone who can afford that car probably travels a bit for business ventures and might have been out of town.

Ummm no. Your only speaking for yourself. Bragging on the internet about what you did to a customers car is pure stupidity. People like you should never get behind a wheel of a car unless it is an Escort. Someone is trusting their investment/toy to you, don't fornicate it up by bragging on the net even if it was just to screw around in the parking lot. You might see it as harmless but the owner definetly does not. I have worked on very expensive cars, Porsche, Audi and some really other expensive cars. Not once did I ever drive any of those cars irresponsibly regaurdless of how much horsepower was under the hood. Their is a difference between a mechanic and a technician, which one are you?

Okay thanks Dad I'll keep that in mind the next time.  ;)

This is a prime example of why my cars never go any place to be worked on, unless I'm able to see what's going on.

Not that I own an expensive A-M or anything, but folks have no consideration for other people's property.

I've had customer's tell me personally "Go ahead, give it hell", but other than that it's not some "right" you have to treat a customer's car like a rented mule....period.

I woulda opened it up alittle bit. Its not every day you have the chance to drive a car like that, and if it didnt hurt anything or squeal the tires, I dont see what is wrong with it.

With gas prices these days though, the owner might just track you down for the .1 gallons you used.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I say good on you man.  I would have done the same  thing.  And so would everyone else here unless they were too afraid.  There I said it.  Big whoop, wanna fight about it?

Exactly everyone here would have done the same i dont care if you call yourself a Technician or a Mechanic. Because if your a Technician you were once a Mechanic.

Yeah but bragging on the net isnt the smartest idea. Still isnt yours to mess around with regaurdless if it was just a little squeal. Not your property. Test driving car is one thing, horsing around with it is totally different. If you are going to mess around with it, don't brag on the internet about it, that is just plain stupidity.

That might be the most important thing.  Does anyone remember the thread on some Mustang board where a Tech makes a post stating that he took a customer's Cobra up to 120mph on backroads, burned the tires, and revved the shiznit out of it?  People went nuts and it was everywhere, flooded the board, and finally the owners of the car were contacted, got on the board, and then showed it to the dealer and had the guy fired.  I can't find it, but it was in an archive of the best/stupidest/greatest threads ever.

It was an extremely entertaining thread.  People are touchy when it comes to this kind of thing, so I dont want to get on either side of this.  But I worked at an extremely high end shop, and my boss took me on some serious thrash runs in customer's cars - all with the customer's blessing of course, and all with engines (and usually transmissions) that we built and had already flogged on the dyno.  But I've never personally taken a customer's car out, and think it would be immoral since the customer left the car in my boss's trust, and in his care, not mine.

There, I think I managed to get on both sides a little bit.

Yeah it was on Mustang Works. I'am a member there. But still doesnt give anyone the right to mess with someone elses property or abuse the trust of a customer.

abusing somebody elses shiznit is weak and is just like steeling.

Huh? I don't know if that was aimed towards me or not nor do I understand what you are trying to say. The first sentence sounds like it isn't a big deal and the third sentence you say it is. Which is it?

I was going to mention the thing about the guy's Mustang but 302Fairmont beat me to it.  I'm pretty sure I'd be too scared to mess around in someone's expensive car that way.

wasnt directed towared you. i meant, as far as bragging rights go...big deal. i cant see bragging about driving a certain car. its like saying something like " my uncle or grandparents that live in FL is rich" for example. or "my boss owns a certain car or is loaded or something."

i think its disrespectfull and somewhat like steeling when you abuse someone elses property. the car was dropped off in trust that it would be respected. if hey left permission or knew about it it would be a different story. still would have been weak too brag about though. just my:2c:

it would also be another thing completely if it was like, i drove a ford gt and this is my take on it rather than, this guy dropped this ford gt off at our shop and i took it for a ripper, drifted it and took it too 102 mph on an onramp...etc

So this rich guy comes in and leaves his very expensive car there for 3 days to get 4 tires and an alignment. Well since the manager left...

I don't mean to judge you, so don't take too much umbrage in my comments. However, if your version of the "test drive" was standard operating procedure, why would you have to wait for the manager to leave? Also, i've known people in the same situation that didn't come out as lucky, so be careful out there.

Anyways, kudos for getting to drive a car like that. I'll probably never get that chance.
