More suspension advice needed! August 01, 2005, 12:42:18 AM Ok, here we go again. At the last Autocross I blew the right front shock, since now I have to get new struts to finish the year I figured I will go ahead and due some other stuff. I have some 650 lbs. springs to replace the fronts and i will replace the lower control arms with the updated ones from Ford. I will also go ahead and freshin' up the rear suspension with new poly bushings and replace the shocks. Now to the question what is a good affordable replacement shocks/struts I could put on my car that will be good for the street and good for autox?that is all! Re: More suspension advice needed! Reply #1 – August 01, 2005, 02:49:03 AM I was looking at your Apr 17th auto X results. Your times look pretty good compared with the other cars that were running. Are you still running stock brakes? If so, that makes your times more impressive!Sorry I cant help with the strut/shock question. I'd like to know the answer too... Quote Selected
Re: More suspension advice needed! Reply #2 – August 01, 2005, 09:41:26 AM Well, they're not the most "affordable", but Konis or Bilsteins are the way to go performance-wise. Koni Reds might be a little light for what you want to do, but your spring rates aren't too high. This helps for the front struts , but not so much for the rear shocks unless you make new lower brackets and run Mustang shocks (which are ALOT shorter than the Tbird ones). Koni or Bilstein don't make them any more for the Fox Tbirds... Quote Selected
Re: More suspension advice needed! Reply #3 – August 01, 2005, 01:13:41 PM does anybody have a measurment of a tbird rear shock, sn-95, or fox mustang rear shock to do a comparison? maybe we can make some adapter brackets, or draw up some plans for coolcats so other people can get desent shocks out back. Re: More suspension advice needed! Reply #4 – August 01, 2005, 01:51:11 PM Could you not take a shock mount like this one and turn it over to use Mustang shocks? You would need to enlarge the top hole to accept the bolt, maybe a tack weld or two. :D Quote Selected

Been meaning to PM you about it, but my memory is about the size of a pea... cut in half... and stepped on. twice. Quote Selected
Re: More suspension advice needed! Reply #8 – August 01, 2005, 06:28:54 PM also, at some advance auto's, they sell shock shaft lengthener "things"basically, you thread them onto your shock shaft, and it will have a long section, then a threaded section on the top of it, making it shock shaft longer, i can describe it right now Quote Selected

I'd like to know the answer too...Yes, I still have the stock brakes. 10in. front rotors and 9in rear drums. I have Performance Fiction Carbon mettalic pads on the front and cheap NAPA shoes on the rear. Thanks for the the advise Chuck, I planned on doing the bracket mod on the rear so I can put mustang shocks on the back but you can't modify the mounting points in street prepared. At the end of the year I plan on going trough the car and moving to Street Modified, that class allows you more room for suspension, drivetrain and engine mods. I need to get with Hawk and you Chuck to get my car sorted for next year.I figure since I am wowing people now in this car imagine how suprized they will be when I am running times even with Cobras and z-28s Quote Selected
