2.3 cam swap

I was wondering if anyone new what the max cam lift you can have before you have to start changing valve train stuff? I was thinking either the a racer walsh cam that has around .500 lift or if thats too much the ford racing a234 cam which is .420 lift. let me know what you think . Thanks

.500 will be fine with stock length valves but you need to get matching valve springs. You would be able to run stock valve srings with the ford cam.

I cant remember for sure but .500 is pushing it. When I had my ranger I put a Crane cam (.460in 480ex) and I used the matching springs. The cam and springs where under 300 buck but that was about four or five years ago. I still have the cam and springs if you're interested. Its pretty lopey and its a great turbo cam.

Heres a cam that I will be running in the Ranger once I get everything all together for the swap. Its an Esslinger 2277, the specs are in here along with some more from them. Everyone that I've talked to seems to prefer the Essy 2277 cam over the FR a234 cam but to honest I havent tried Ford Racing one. Of course as with anything from Esslinger expect to pay alittle more.
