Mas Air conversion question....

For those of you who have done this....how hard is it to convert to mass Air?I can get a wiring kit for 440.00,and the associated peices.What I guess i really want to know is,how hard is wiring it up?

It's as easy as pie. You don't need a $440 wiring kit though or it shouldn't really cost that much to convert it. I guess it depends on what components you're going for. Just get a wiring kit to add mass air to a Mustang. It's simple to hook up. Eric has a write-up of the wires to switch on his site here There are just a couple pins that need to be relocated at the computer.
I got this Granatelli Conversion harness although I know I didn't pay $82 for it.

My entire Mass Air Conversion cost about $100 for everything that I needed.

The most difficult part about doing it was feeding the wiring into the interior. I just put a hole in an existing grommet on the passenger side and fed the wires through with a straightened out coat hanger.

Vin, are you still using the stock cam?  If so no need for the mass air upgrade yet.  That is unless you have a cam swap in the works to something with slightly low vacuum at idle.

mass air helps out a little with gas mileage though doesn't it? and thanks for the link to that harness! i want to switch my car, because i intend to cam it.

I welcomed the dark side and currently am driving a 2000 Dodge Durango SLT plus, with a 5.9, Code named project "Night Runner"
Shes black on black, fully loaded, with headers, 180 tstat, e fan, straight exhaust into a cherry bomb vortex ler, full tune up, ported intake and T/B, MSD coil, and round aircleaner.
Mods to come: Fully rebuilt and heavily modded 46RE, and a richmond rachet locker.

Yep,stock cam for now.I'm planning for the future (5.8).I do have ported heads,Explorer intake larger exhaust,headers.I thought that for now,until the 5.8,Mass Air may take better advantage of the mods I have.Input?

Unless the engine has a long duration cam(lumpy idle/low manifold vaccum) it just ain't necessary. I speak from experience I did the conversion on a 5.0 Stang I WAS planning on modding and lost .25 at the track. Decided to go the Bird route, so I converted it back(and regained the lost performance)before I sold it..

dominator... As I understand it the 55mm meter really isn't the reason the MAF Stangs were slower, it is the A/F ratio. If what I read some time ago was correct, it was stated the MAF is actually a little rich on WOT where as the Speed Densety system was actually closer to optimum ratio.

IF you think about it, the 60mm T-body probably flows LESS than the 55mm air meter because it has a 1/4" shaft through the center of it.

In short; gather everything up for it, but I wouldn't swap it in till the 351 was in place.  Your just fine with SD right now!:D

So far my SD setup has been good even with a non stock cam. It has a bit higher idle than stock so it doesn't stall but that's to be expected with a lumpy .533 lift cam anyways. I'd just stay with the SD setup you have till you swap in the 5.8W. Then when the engine is out you have more room to work on the harness.
88 Thunderbird LX: 306, Edelbrock Performer heads, Comp 266HR cam, Edelbrock Performer RPM intake, bunch of other stuff.

I may just gather the parts and stick them aside until the 5.8 then.Thanks guys.I'll get back to the bodywork.
