One tooth off diagram

Also remember that you set your timing at 10 degrees BTDC or more which means that given the limited (physical) range of adjustment sometimes you might have to intentionally install the dist one tooth off (or more). When I put the HO cam in my 87 I had to pull the dist twice to get within the timing adjustment range that I needed.
Tomorrow I get to do it on the 86. I've got the engine at TDC on the compression stroke with the rotor pointing at the #1 terminal on the cap. Hopefully I'll have enough adjustment room to advance the timing to at least 10 BTDC. I only get about a half inch swing on the dist so odds are I'll have to pull it at least once.
