Tripminder info needed?... FOUND!...

Hi!,

I swapped last winter My base electronic cluster for a full digital cluster, no problems last summer at all, except this f***in FUEL FLOW INPUT wire (LB/PK harsh) supposed to connect on a pin 34 of the computer behind the right front kick panel...

The problem is I have a CARBED engine in My Bird, and don't have any computer as well, I checked on the entire internet, and in the EVTM Ford manuals I have, and except the info I already have, I don't see anything help Me for a carbed engine...

What is the output of this ed pin 34 of the ECA/ECC, a variable voltage, a modulated voltage at ??? HZ, variable resistance????, I don't know what!...

I checked at the junkyards for an carbed old full sized/equipped fords, nothing like that...

I guess for the carbed engine is a kind of vacuum box connected to the same vacuum of the distributor advance, and convert the vacuum to a variable voltage, or whatever!!!...

If anyone in this board have an advanced info on that, this will be VERY VERY appreciated, because without this "fuel flow input" connected, the tripminder is VERY not accuracy...

Note: The full digital cluster and clock tripminder need the same signal from the pin 34 of ECA/ECC...

Happy new Year...

from the '84 EVTSM page 88:

Pin 6 of the Tripminder Module has a LB/PK H wire to ECA pin 34
OR for Canada only carbed 3.8, Pin 6 has a white wire to a fuel flow sensor.

Component Location:
Fuel flow sensor--Between carburetor and RH fender apr0n.

This is a guess but I think the fuel line runs through the flow sensor.

Correct.

You need to find the fuel flow sensor from a 1978-up Ford/Lincoln/Mercury that has a carb and a tripminder.  I don't have a pic handy, but they do exist and its what you need.

I found a pic of it, but I have no scanner. :(

Go to your Ford Parts dealer and ask them for a screen shot of the fuel flow sensor for a 1982 Lincoln Continental.  (that's the fox body Lincoln).

Get that sensor and you're set. Good luck, mang!!!!

Hello,

Curiously, last night after a couple of hours of research with Google, I found this board (grandmarq.net) and see a couple of pics of the fuel flow sensor, on the marquis/Crown vic, it seems to bolted on the intake, just between carb and right valve cover...

I guess I'll founs at the "giant" syard near Me, he have a lot of old cars, like a full sized Marquis/Crown's and Lincolns...

Hi!,

Hello!,

A full sized Ford Econoline pic below, I putted out a digital speedometer from a Lincoln town car last year to fit in My truck, this speedo is drived by a standard wire between trans and speedo, like the lincoln digital I have, and this speedo have a speed sensor output, I just put this wire to the clock tripminder and the fuel flow sensor out to the clock too, and that's it...

The problem it's fit the digital speedo in the cluster to work correctly, and to do good cosmetical appearance, I have 3 or 4 econoline clusters here, and if it's to hard or much trouble to fit in, I'll fit a Tbird/Cougar digital speedo unit in the cluster...

The only bad thing is the clock in the truck is placed very away at the left of the drivers side, and not very easy to push the buttons when You drive the truck, another thing, on the day when the sun is at left rear You don't see anything due to the sun reflection...

Anyway for the truck is not an emergency, I'll do this summer when I use only My truck time to time...

Hey now that's a good idea!  I thought a tripminder would just bolt in, but what you're doing there is pretty trick!!!
