It will bolt up.

Why not put the 5-speed in it?
It's Gumby's fault.

i plan on it, but for now since this is my only car i just want to hook it up and go instead of having to fix it up with a clutch pedal and make a hole in the floor for the shifter, i will save all that for when i have more time

would that be an A4LD tranny in the 3.8 birds? The AOD is a whole different tranny than the A4ld.  The AOD is what the 5.0 stangs came with Why would it have problems holding up to a 5.0? Now with the A4ld I could see that it would be weak. They even made the turbo models run less boost with the a4ld.

A4LD is available in 4 cylinder T Bird and Cougar.

all 3.8 V6 TBird and Cougar can have either AOD or C5 transmission not A4LD.

The V6 AOD is still known to be weaker and it's V8 counterpart... which doesn't have a great reputation to begin with. Especially when it comes to "strength". But you can build it up nonetheless if you choose to keep it in.

Personally I would just go ahead with the 5-speed swap. You've got all the parts and what better time to do it than an engine swap. Plus who knows how long that AOD will last. =/
