I finally found a rust free T-Bird in Newfoundland

It's a good looking car. Too bad it's not for sell :( ...It's not the car I want anyway plus I already have an iron in the fire.

It's a 85 3.8. The guy bought it off a young fellow who got it from his grandfather when he moved to town to go to university. He only used for a month or so in the winter and didn't like the way it handled in the snow. (The grandfather never drove it in the winter).

Notice the factory sunroof and the cougar hubcaps. The original hubcaps where stolen. He was interested in a set of ten holes I had for sale last year but I never heard from him after the first call so i figured he was scared off by the price I was asking. Anyway, he had lost my number and just found it last week. He dropped by today and bought the rims. Now he just needs a set of t-bird centers - my rims came off my '93 mustang and has the ford centers.

He said he's going to get some new head lights as two are dull and another has water in it.

The seats are a bit sun faded but are not toren or stained. Dash is not cracked either.

Only a little rust under the trunk lid and a couple blisters around the car. There is more rust on the propane tank he was carring in the trunk than was on the car :)

Man, I gotta say, after seeing some clean four-eyes on this board lately (you know who you are) and seeing this one in person today, I'm starting to get a greater apperication for these cars.

I told him I'd ask here if anyone has the peice of body metal that is between the bottom of the rear window and the trunk lid. Maybe someone has a parts car that has a good peice on it that could be cut off with a sawsall? :sawzall:On his car, the clips that hold on the trim are rusted off and there are a couple rust blisters where the clips where.

That's a common rust place on the four-eyes. I've even seen 'em with big holes there.

Truthfully, I prefer the looks of the four-eyes over the 87-88's as far as T-Birds are concerned - the 83-86 style has a more classic, muscular look about it. The 87-88 looks too modern for its own good - most people don't even know that my car is 17 years old. Some might consider that a plus, but as these cars become classics I'd be happier if they looked the part...

With Cougars it's opposite - I prefer the clean, elegant lines of the 87-88 over the 83-86. I just find the roof too square and the upside-down windows not quite upside-down enough on the the older ones.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Nice find. This must have once belonged to Dick Clark. That may explain the unusually long life in a place as dangerous for cars as Nfld. ;)
