Gas fireplace inserts??

Who has one?  What brand?  Do you like it?

Remodeling our family room and going to do something with the fireplace to make it useful. I've done a little looking around but I'm hoping you fellas can provide some actual user experiences.  I'll have to feed it propane since we do not have natural gas.  Also plan on going direct vent.

i have wood insert, not gas.
I didnt like the gas because most of the time its radiant heat.

I dont know if designes now allow for the doors to close and a separate air box blower can be ran or not.

The gas models we are looking for have variable speeds blowers that can be adjusted via remote or manually.

Since I do burn wood as a primary heater source in a wood/coal furnace, I thought this would be nice for those cooler evenings when I don't feel like burning a fire.

I use only wood during the winter. I really like the new models that say they only emit 2.0 grams of pollution an hour. They use like a catalytic converter in them. But they are not cheap. I bought mine off Craigs list. I also like the blower, you can always set up your own blower and save yourself some money. So, I'm sure everybody is wondering if you plan on putting this in your car?? (lol)

REALLY Dan, Is that you? You Do know this is a FORD forum??  (only joking! lol) The manufacturer of one of my stoves is Lpoi. When I bought it off Craig's list I bought it new, still on the crate. The people who sold it to me moved here from the east coast and didn't think they would need it. Now that I'm retired, I'm going to set up some (home made) solar water heating for my home. Stay warm!

We have an old open gas fireplace in our living room.  According to the people we bought the place from, the burner apparatus hasn't been used in a few decades.  I'd love to put in a gas insert.  When I looked into it a few months back, I was looking at Quadrafire because that is what the local Do It Best building center sells.  Kinda pricey though, looked like it would have cost about 2-3K.

That's what I'm faced with.  Putting in a good direct vent unit with remote control thermostat, adjustable blowers and flame, chimney kit, etc will be $3K.
