hi
i just got this cougar yesterday which is sad shape, but it has had a bunch of stuff done to it,new gas tank, fuel pump, filter & new gas lines
it has had the heads reworked along with all the gaskets, ect done to it.
it has also had a new water pump themostat & housing new injectors tune up,oil filters, some hose work,& some belts
the sad part
this car has been sitting 2 years in the meantime a kid got a hold of it & took stuff off of it,its mainly nic-picking stuff, but its still missing, its just about intact.
the paint & clear coat is flaking off & the dashpad is cracked all to pieces ,i was the last to drive this car 2 years ago,boy i got saw it yesterday for the 1st time,im here to tell you dont know what that kid was thinking!
plus its got trash from stem to stern in it,the window on the passenger side dont work now,in a little while im going to clean it up as it is right now it is terrible shape
best part of it is friend of mine gave it to me,he is unable to work on it anymore as he put it its going to a good home

The dash...that's tough to argue against, since you have to either replace the whole dash or put a cover overlay on it. The southern and western sun surely ruin interiors. No doubt about that.

But still. No disrespect meant, just jealousy really! You have no idea what "sad shape" is. I'll take a sun-baked-paint rust-free car over a shiny car with rust breaking out any day!!! Just looking at that front dogleg of the quarter panel in front of the rear wheel makes me shake my head in amazement. And a freebie too! XR7 with the two-tone. Pretty color combo, good score!

Good luck with the restoration! Enjoy not having to cut out and patch metal :)
And yes. Rolling garbage dumps are SO annoying. Some people are just slobs...but once you get everything pitched out and vacuumed, it'll be like a whole new car. Been there done that, feels great afterwards. During, not so much lol

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

^^^  LMAO!!!!! Of course. End of thread. Right here.
If this guy has truly never seen real Northeastern rust before, he's gonna have a heart attack when he sees that thread. I'd bet there are plenty of people in the world that truly HAVE NOT witnessed that degree of corrosion...would be a sickening education.

In the words of the Aussies: "Don't worry mate, she'll be roiiight!"

It took Jerry months to add all that rust to create an authentic Northeastern car.  Do not attempt without beer and a large swimming pool.
