Hear me out

Does anyone know if Mazda has a performance catalog like Ford Racing(That sells new engines), when i have to replace the 2.5 in my new edge im thinking about a Rotary 1.8 or a 1.3.The Rotarys make some good power for what i guess could be considered a 4 cyl. I cant seem to find any of the crate 2.5's in the Ford Racing Catalog only 2.0 duratecs.

i dont know if mazda has a performance catalog, but you might try a company called racing beat. they have been into rotary engine performance since the 70's.

yeh try what rbo said.  they might have a book, i have no idea what it would be called.  like ford racing mazda has mazdaspeed.  now, theres a huge rebuilt rotory aftermarket (as in the whole engine rebuilt) where people put them in planes, boats, and of course cars.  you'll have to do some searchin on the internet but there is a site out there that sells ready to bolt in and run rotorys from 12a' to 13b's.  like i said, they use em in boats and planes, so that might be a hint to finding the site.  infact there are not just one site/company that rebuilds rotorys.  you'll either have to come up with a shiznit yard rotory to get away from the core charge, but if you dont wanna do all of that i dont think the core charge is over 150$ last i checked i seem to remember 75 core charge?  they're on the cheap too, just shipping is a bitch.  it'd be a hell of a lot better than spending money on a used engine that hasnt been freshened up like new.

Except they never made a FWD rotary.

MazdaSpeed is the factory program and yes they have catalogs. Expect Miata 1.8's, turbo stuff, Renesis rotaries, and what-not. Mazda likes RWD, which is why I like Mazda :D

Exactly thats why i would have to grab the drive train as well, this is just speculation, i would love to have a 1.3 or a 1.8 under the hood of that car tho. I do believe that the RX-8 and the new edge are about the same length.

I think the RX-8's got a longer wheelbase - that car is long and skinny, with the wheels pushed right out to the corners.

I dunno how much of an aftermarket there is for the 2.5, but it's not hopeless - you can do things to it, such as an SVT upgrade (kinda like an HO upgrade for the Fox, so I guess some things never change). You could also swap in a 3.0, which would give you the same 200 horsepower as the SVT swap, but likely with more torque. You can probably pick up a 97 or newer Taurus with the Duratec for pocket change. I believe the top end on the Mazda 6 version of the Duratec would be an upgrade again - the Mazda version of the 3.0 makes around 220 horses.

I like the Rotary engine because it's different, but I would never go through the trouble of swapping one, especially into a FWD car. They've got very little torque, burn oil, wear out fast, and use a LOT of gasoline. If I ever owned a rotary it'd be in an older RX-7...

Do the 3.0 swap..  I see those motors at pick n pull every time I go there.

And swapping drivetrains would mean extreme modifications to the under belly of the car.  Similar to those rear drive ****ass's

my bad... you said rotary, im not a mazda expert so i kinda disreguarded the name of the car.  fwd eh?  make it look spiffy sell it, and then work on something worth while... RWD.  lol nah, this is your DD?  i'd just rebuild the engine you have or buy a rebuilt one.

are we talking about the ford edge, or the CX-7.  im confuzzled b/c my google search didnt find me anything performance welcoming...
