Looking for info on new cougars Reply #1 – April 29, 2007, 01:13:26 PM I have a 99 that has not given me any problems that i did not expect from a highmile first year vehicle (mind you i did buy it used). But after about 2 thousand miles (103,***) the transaxle went to , thank god i bought the extended warranty. Then i had a check engine light come on an idle air control valve and a computer reprogram which Byryder also ate. Thats about the extent of the problems i have had with the car, if you want the same for a slightly cheaper price tag i would consider a Contour. Personally driving the 87 (RWD) then going to the 99 (FWD) i think the new cougar has some balls it just needs that SVT Contour sc to liven the party up. Quote Selected
Looking for info on new cougars Reply #2 – April 29, 2007, 01:42:59 PM Me and the wife bought one brand new in March of 2000 and still have it. It's just coming up on 82,000 miles and has been a trooper. Ours is a V6 automatic. We've replaced the alternator at around 65000 miles and both front wheel bearings at around 75000 miles. Other than that it's been the usual wear and tear items; brakes, tires, fluid changes and whatnot. The car has IMRC's and wakes up when she hits about 3000 rpm. Off the line it's a bit of a pig. It's been real reliable though. Quote Selected
