Ugh! Can't figure this out!!!

Ok so since Sunday this laptop will NOT connect to the internet through neither IE7 or FF2. Both will hang while maxing out the CPU (I only noticed because the fans will cut on shortly afterwards). Firefox needs to be killed through the Task Manager. I have ruled out the ISP and the wireless router by using two different computers. I have scanned and rescanned (McAfee) and no viruses have been found. Spybot found nadda and CWS Shredder found nothing as well. I am running out of patience and ideas!!!

Have you tried both your wired and wireless connections? Try to "ping"  something from the command line, such as http://www.google.com. It should come back with a resolved IP number. If it is just the wireless, try running the network connection repair wizard. Additionally make sure that if you have WEP and or MAC filtering turned on in your wireless router, that the settings/key matches up on the computer.

Sorry for the slow response... I pretty much stopped looking at that  thing. But to answer your questions, yes the wired connection works thru another PC, but not the laptop. But I will check with my fiance to verify the wireless thru her work laptop.

I have tried repairing several times and still no change. I will try thing other things you suggested when I get home.

Thanks,

Antonio

EDIT: Updated to avoid confusion.

The wireless receiver in the computer might be screwed, or you might be getting interference. Most laptops have their wireless antenna in the screen housing, so it (or, more likely, the wiring going to it) may be FUBAR from opening and closing the screen.

I edited my previous post. But to recap.

No wired or wireless internet connection on home laptop.
Wired connection on home PC.
And after talking to my fiance, no wireless on work laptop either. But wired works fine.

Alright so this is the first time the laptop has been on in two days. I start it up and very thing seems fine. It actually downloads some windows updates and installs them. Before, it couldn't even download them. Then I went to the command line and ping'd google. I got some IP addresses (and some other text... happened kinda fast) and then the window went away. Is that good?

So I'm thinking everything is ok and I open up a browser and try to go to google. Well that was 15 mins ago and it's be processing it ever since. The status bar is about halfway and it is saying "Website found. Waiting for reply...". Now normally if it can't find a site it returns with a website not found or something like that. But this constant running trying to connect, is something I have never seen before.

I am totally stumped...

Try downloading AVG Antispyware.  Its works better then the Adaware / Spybot software programs.  If you antivirus is out of date uninstall it and install Avast  Antivirus.  Both of these programs are free to download and install.

If you are still having problems after that I suggest that you update the drivers or software for your wireless card in your laptop.

Well the wireless is fixed, but the laptop still can't connect to the internet. Seems to go into a continuous loop when opening a page. Doesn't really matter too much more anyways. My fiance just bought a Mac. So the laptop will be getting reformatting real soon.

So we get a new router because the old one was giving us all kinds of problems. Well I hook it up, install the CD, follow the steps and voila! No mofookie wifi anymore. Just for S&Gs I fire up the Mac and tada... instant wifi. Almost effortless. I hate Windows.
