1-8.8 out of a linc mk7 with disc brake set up.28 spl 3.55 L gears 54 inches from to .has a sway bar. 125.00
1 8.8 from a 88 cougar xr7 was disc brake has 308 L 28 spl cleaned up. 50.00
I have a 327 and a 355 spare L gears with extra parts 30.00 each
I have a 5 lug conversion set up with axles ,drums and full back plates 40.00
I have a spare set of drums and back plates(full set) with the small bolt pattern but, larger drums 25.00 both *when I say full sets, that means all brake hardware is still there and in tack.
I have a drive shaft that was told to me it was a mustang, looks in good shape 20.00 ***I will sell the whole thing at one time, all rear end stuff 200.00***.
,I was gonna do a 8.8 set up in a 81 malibu and changed my mind, going to 9in ford.this is stuff I have picked up along the way to set up a couple of different rear ends.you can call me 228-217-5905 thanks kenny
Do yall think that maybe a jegs or summitt style 28 spline axle(they say 40 % stronger) will work better than stock ones.I have a mild Rv cam with a 30 over BB,with a i believe 1800 stall (its a little above stock).I just dont know where to turn now cause I thought my gears was 31 spline and they are 28s in the 54 in housing. If I went to 31s I dont know what cars or trucks to look for to get the gears and the axles.I di think one time about explorer with 31 splined but, length of axle is short and not sure if the chunk will fit the car housing.
Ok,I do have 28 spline axles from both linc mk7 and a 96 mustang.the lincs feel a little heavier.just wondering ,I am putting them in the 8.8 and trying to figure if they will hold up pretty good behind a mild BBC.I will be running a 9 in slick and sometimes on street tires.just wanted to know if anybody has a car that has stock 28 spline axles and how they are holding up?thanks for your input.kenny-psIts a 3.55 L gear
So does anyone know the width of the housing in an 84'-92' Mark VII? Im going from a Fox Mustang 8.8 drum rear to Mark VII axles, rotors, calipers, ect. Im looking for the 5 Lug vented rotor and the extra width. Just want to make sure its going to be a bit wider then an 87'-88' Turbo Coupe rear end.
When or if it ever quits raining ,I can go out and measure it for ya.I have a 90 model linc mk 7 with disc brakes.I did a quick measure last night and went from outside to outside of the s and got 54 inches.the 88 cougar xr7 rear end is 56 in ches from to .both are 8.8s and both are disc brakes.I used the 94 mustang axle and it has 2in of splines and the linc has 1 1/2 splines.the linc axle is 30-1/2 and the mustang (sn95-94 and up)is 30 inches.I slid both in the 54 in housing from the linc and the both went in fine.I didnt get any farther(Rain).I will get some pics tomorrow(I hope-I swear were in seattle ,wa).I am doing the same set up the way it sounds as you but,I am putting mine in a malibu.i hope that some of this helps.I am doing a write up on maliburacing.com about 8.8 backyard build up with pics.you can go on there and check it out.kenny
I feel like a dummy,I just tore down the linc 8.8,and put the 3.55 in it and found out they were 28 spline(my eyes are getting bad-It just looked bigger in the hole).I realized as well that the 96 mustang axle is 30 in over all and the linc is 30 1/2 both with disc brakes.the splined area on the mustang is 2in long and the splined area on the linc is 1 1/2 long.
I just done a measurement yesterday on a set up,I have pics coming today.I have a 88 cougar xr7 disc brake rear end and a linc mrk 7 disc brake from a 90 model(12/89).the linc has the same measurements as a mustang 79-93 which is 54in and the cougar is 56.the 88 t bird maybe the same as the mustang ,it should measure from outside the s 54in.I believe the arms are a little shorter.not for sure on that one.,they have a chart on here that is very helpful and these people are very nice on here and I found out that they would help in anyway they can.I hope my comparrison wasnt misleading and I hope this helps.kenny
I'm not sure, but I do know that I used the same bearings and seals for 28 spline versus 31 spline axles. Can't help on the axle lengths, but I thought there was a chart of axle lengths floating around - do a search.
Yeah ,thats what I have been doing .I havent go off of here yet.I went back and read up on alot if good info.I didnt know if the bearings and seals would be wider.thanks for the help.
I did find out today they were differents in the linc mk7(89) with disc brakes and the 88 cougar with disc brake(2inches)the linc mk7 rear end is same width as a mustang.I found a set of 3.55 L gears out of a 89 crown vic.If I change out to a 31 spline axle, what bearings would I use and what seals?I am worried if the linc mk7 didnt have the 31 spline in it,would it take another style bearing and seal? Also the axle ?,what vehicle can I get the axles to work in the mk7 rear end?Its 54 1/4 from to and the cougar xr7 with disc is 561/4.from what i could see,it was getting dark on me.I will clean the rear ends up tomorrow and post them on the other topic.thank yall for your help and time.kenny
Update,I went today and purchased the 89 linc mk 7 rear end and with disc for 40.00.I also went through and found (2) sets of 3.55 Locker gears but, they are 28 spline out of grand mark.I did measure the 2 rear ends and realized that they is a 2 in diff in the 88 cougar xr7 with disc and the 89 link mrk 7.I pulled drums from a 90 ranger due to being a little wider than the others.the back holes on the back plate matched up to both rear ends.I kept both the wide ones and narrow.
Oh and the brake hardware that I tried today from the 88 linc (back plates)the 4 bolts in the axle tubes wouldnt line up.it was a smaller pattern. So ,I do know that the ranger with the 4.0 rear brake hardware will work.I know now.
I am sorry for the trouble(I had a brain fart)I did mean the rear control arms.I should have put it better.Thank all of yall for your help.I am going to get the linc rear end in the morning.I believe it will hold up to the 454.I am a ford man for sure,I just like the body of a malibu and noone has a 454 in theirs around here.I am installing th8.8 due to easier to find parts fro.thanks kenny
I went today and pulled some drums off of a 90 lin(they looked alittle narrower than the drums from the 88 town car)I got the back plates from the 88 town car as well.I am gonna put them on the cougar xr7 in the morning and get some info.I did find a linc mk 7about 88 I guess(didnt look at it -they were closing),Its got a 8.8 with disc brake set up.I am trying to stay around 60-62in length.I measured the 88 town car from outside drum to outside and came up with almost 63in.what year do you have so I can look farther on the 60 1/2?thanks kenny.
Okiedokie, dont listen to me on this one.I thought the 4 holes would line up on the back plates(I didnt know they were diff in size)so,I am going back to get my ranger ones back.they were small but, better than nothing.I tried
I was wondering if the control arm location on the linc mrk7 would be the same as the 79-93 mustang fox body?reason is I found a disc brake linc today.I am building a 81 malibu and TRZ has a kit that mounts a mustang rear end in a Gbody.I was wondering if it was the same.I know the length is different.I am trying to stay in around 60-62in.the factory 7.5 is 58.05.I have a 88 cougar xr7 8.8 and have the sn95 axles and gonna try the town car back plates from 88 and drums from a 90 linc tomorrow.I know it sounds like the Johnny cash song.It will be one of a kind.LOL:D
