Engine Tech / Garrett T3/T4 50 Trim question
Appreciate the response, havent had any time over the last few months to work on the project, but thanks to a change in jobs, im finally able to do the install of all this stuff. decided instead of moving the ac out an inch, to just pull it off becuase it doesnt work anyways so ive been working on getting the lines detached and the nose off the car so I can do the intercooler... but, before that, I need to figure out what to do with this turbo, header, and wastegate. Can anybody with a similar setup using rotated headers send me a picture of what they look like installed? Im running into some clearance issues with the oil return line hitting the header currently, but Im also just not incredibly familiar with turbo setups, as any time ive ever worked on this car the turbo back to the dp stayed attached to the stock manifold.

Really and truly, if someone could just give me an brief step by step on installing it, that would be amazing. After investing the money into these parts, im terrified of f***ing something up.

Engine Tech / Garrett T3/T4 50 Trim question
These are the parts I plan on getting to fix my blown IHI... I have been waiting on a response from Bo-Port as to what outlet style I need to get.

Any help is much appreciated. Been working on this car for just at a year, and this should be the final piece to getting it back on the road.

Engine Tech / Turbo Oil Line Confusion...
The turbo being bad was kind of my biggest fear. I'm going to try plugging those after I get off work in the morning just as a final check that it doesn't resolve the issue. If the turbo is indeed bad, it's getting swapped for a T3/T4 on Stinger headers to rotate it 90* and then do a FMIC. Unfortunately, that's gonna mean dropping some serious cash when I'm still trying to pay off the engine and transmission lol.

Soon enough though, I'll get these parts on the way and get this thing on the road.

Thanks for the help.

Engine Tech / Turbo Oil Line Confusion...
I recently rebuilt the engine and transmission in my 88 TC, and I've had numerous issues just getting the thing to run since getting everything installed. I've taken it to one shop, and they put a new distributor in and told me it was running, but not well. Basically, the thing is smoking like crazy and won't idle.

After the slightest bit of digging, I found what I feel has to be the issue: oil coming up through my intercooler and into the throttle body. The cause of this issue, as far as I can tell is that these three lines are not right. One of them was apparently plugged by my Dad because he couldn't figure out where it went, and I'm thinking it was causing some back pressure that was redirecting too much oil into the intercooler. Basically, what I need to know is the correct placement of these three lines. The biggest disconnect I'm having is that I see 2 places for 3 lines to attach. I can't find anywhere else for them to go.

Any help is greatly appreciated so I can get my old bird back on the road at last!

Body/Appearance/Interior / Wheel help
I'm about to do some photoshop magic and see if I can't get the basic idea. I want the package you are talking about. Those rivets make it look 10 times as bad.

Body/Appearance/Interior / Wheel help
Does anyone have a picture of what those Saleen SC wheels look like on a Thunderbird? In addition to that, would there be any complications in running the 17x9's without making any modifications?

Suspension/Steering / Factory suspension equipment
This was my thought as well. I'm working on the project with my dad (the original owner of the car and the one who wanted to get those original parts back). My parents had to have them replaced years ago and opted to get standard parts instead of the factory installed ones due to price.

I just want to get the ride back to being as firm as possible, as in its age it's rather loose. However, if these parts aren't going to stack up with modern replacement/aftermarket parts, then there is no need to shell out the money for something that doesn't perform the way I'd like.

Suspension/Steering / Factory suspension equipment
Are the original programmable ride parts available to any ones knowledge?

I'm looking to rebuild my 88 TC and get it basically back to stock performance, and if these are available, I think I might like to invest in them.

Engine Tech / fuel pressure check
The guage is from sears.com, you can search for "Craftsman compression test kit", and its the first one (I can't post a link or I would).

He said it can check fuel pressure, which is what im trying to do, not a compression test, I understand your confusion after rereading my original post.  But for some reason he keeps telling me that he doesn't think that it has the right sized fitting to check the pressure for my car, because it didn't have the one for his mom's Taurus.  I'm going on what he has told me thus far.  I will check the TPS like you said soon, when it's daylight outside.

What do you mean by pulling the codes?

Engine Tech / fuel pressure check
My car has been kicking back like im running out of gas at a specific rpm range (1700-2200) and does not do so under heavy loads. I've already basically ruled out ignition as being the source of the problem, and changed my fuel filter to make sure it wasnt clogged.  Everyone who I've talked to about it so far, has pointed me toward the fuel pump, and before spending 160$ on a fuel pump assembly, I'd like to make sure thats the cause of the problem, and not something ive simply missed.  The compression test kit im going to be borrowing is a craftsman, and it didnt have a fitting for a newer taurus, and the guy im borrowing it from said he doesnt think it has the correct fitting, so... Basically, Im wondering how I would go about checking my fuel pressure (where its at, what exactly my procedure for doing so would be), and what type of fitting i need for a fuel pressure guage i would need.

I'm pretty new to working on cars, and would much appreciate a little more informed guidance.

Thanks
-Steve

Engine Tech / How to improve my performance and MPG?
I've been hovering around the forums for a while now, and I am hoping that some of you people who are much smarter than I am, could help me out.  I don't know much about cars, but I'm learning, my dad has rebuilt the motor in my 88TC twice and knows most everything about the car.

I'm looking for ways to easily get some more power from my old car, and to get more comfortable working on it.  I've looked into a few different methods of doing so, however, as many of you know, information on these motors isn't so easy to come by, and my dad and I don't see one another often enough to really talk about it where I could get his opinion on the matter.

Thanks in advance
