Well, i'm done the head for it.. turns out the head when I tore it down had the orig valve seals and three were cracked completely in half! And, the head gasket, one of the fire rings was tweaked so I think the shortblock is fine.......
Here are some pics of he head..... threw a quick port job on it..lol.. funy thing is its nicer than the port job on the head on the t Bird which was done in 2006.. amazing what a little experience give you lol.
Just have to port the inline intakes... mostly the upper needs runner enlargement as the stock inline lowers do almost 200 cfm out of the box... should b a fun street car...
Combo for now will be: Stock shortblock ported head stock cam & hardware new seals ported intakes, maybe super coupe TB if I find one... Ported E6 LB3, Big vam, 35s, .63 T3 Volvo FMIC w/ ranger rad and e fan 3" exhaust with externally dumped internal w/g [YES.. u read that correct] its a divorced setup... T5 8.8 wth new clutches, FMS girdle and 3.73s.
Plan is to tune to 16-17 psi and shoot for about 275 realistic HP on pump gas and 16 psi.
Then I plan to switch the T Bird and Cougar drive lines,,,,, TC will be registered for road with mild combo prvin cougar and Cougar will have the 11 sec setup.
Travis, I'll rep the Cougars best I can. Its getting the svo's old driveline, will weigh what the svo did, but will have a whole bunch more turbo.... should be interesting.
Chuck i'm mixed on them... It's going to mostly spend its time on polished 10 holes with 26x10 ET Drags out back and polished TC spares/skinnies up front at the track anyway. I may sell the ROHs to generate some cash.. we'll see.
Thanks guys. So that figure above was that all turbo XR7s? The 6171 figure? I was told like only a few hundred were turbo coupes and I am trying to find out or sure.
Say hello to my new race / drag car. The TC will be getting engine/trans swapped and retired to daily driver duty seeing as the body on it is a lot rougher.... I got this from a friend who bought it with the engine half assembled from someone else I knew that bough tit from original owner in Niagara Falls Canada... was going to do it up then gave up on it with the upper intake and turbo pipe and valve cover all off...
The current guy got it.... and then went put it all back together, built a custom 3" ex with divorced w/g, and it turns out someone at some point 1st guy] got a lot of water in the motor.. possibly degreasing engine bay as I recall he did... with stuff took off or from it sitting w.o a upper intake or piping on the turbo or a valve cover at friend #1s house....... . cause when it fired up for current guy, it burned oil like a sumbitch.. pulled the heads and the cyls have rust stains... and each chamber is soaked in oil... At any rate.. it NOW... has CHE rear ctrl arms, ds loop, and a fully rebuilt 8.8 I did, in it w. 373s and a center cap now on the steering wheel...
Oh what did I pay? I traded a fully set of ported GT 40 heads for it. [pictured].
So basically the plan is to swap in my 11 sec TC motor and trans all as one, add LA3, VAM/55s/holset, into the Coug..... then use my spare short block., the cougar head with a quick port job, and cougar intakes, clutch, t5 etc etc, ported E6, stock T3 it comes with and a volvo i'c / rad combo I have here... and the bird with the 8.8 3/73s and this stuff should still be a stout 12 sec street car on 35 lbers...... and pump.. lotsa work ahead.. oh it came with the ROHS too. :hick:
I do have a blue console, I want to get some pics, car is at my buddies, so I can't get over there until tomorrow, but the interior is the blue with lighter blue in the seats [common] and the console was nice from what I remember.. I 'll have pics up tomorrow, thanks guys,
2 e6 manifolds 1 ported no broken studs 110.00 shipped the other is stock 80.00 shipped.
2 intake sets from 88 TCs unported. 120.00 each pair [1 upper/1 lower]
3 large vams 60.00 each shipped
2 sets of brown tops 40.00 each set shipped.
Also my my buddy and I are parting out a complete 88 Turbo coupe, so instead of listing every nut and bolt it's probably easier to pm or call with your needs,
Thanks Travis, he's going to get some Weld Rodlites. Funny he was checking out the vids of your car the other day.. he is a police officer in Detroit, lives over here...
I haven't posted in a while and thought what the heck.. My buddy picked this up for $1900. It's every bit as nice as the pics [pics suck]. If anyone has the center for this steering wheel lying around shoot me a PM. There can't be many of these left on earth.. the black is still the original paint. Has 153000 km.
Its looks stone stock down to the E3 manifold, I wish I had about 1750 bucks cause that would prob take it... thing looks better than my TC does condition wise,... I offered them my 84 CR 500R but they don't want a bike... I love this car so much... I hope someone picks it up before it sells to someone like my uncle who's put V8s into like 3 o 4 of these turbo cars
Here are a few pics of my old 2.3L Turbo swapped 1987 Cougar and a decent action shot of my Turbo Coupe...... wait till you see the last pic of how it ended up with the current owner. I was bummed...
My TC
What became of my Cougar :( It was NOT in an accident or sideswiped. I sold the car mint in '07, and that owner took good care... then it blew a head gasket in 2010. It got parked then sold to current owner who was "gonna fixxerup". Well I guess someone did back into the nose at a shop but nothing IMO that couldnt be fixed. Well he let the car sit then decided he was junking it. It still had the long block, the T5, a 4 puck race clutch, LA3, Merk harness etc.. He made NO effort to sell or part out.. they beat the car in with sledgies and dropped it of at a metal recycling place. the doors and rear 1/4s were rust free. anyways...............
I'll just leave it and change the heater core then. It was one of them deals where if there were huge gains, then cool, but not going to give up working heat only to lose 20 lbs or something... Thanks.
