So when they sell a police interceptor, do they strip the motor back to stock or sell as is?

AFIK the engines are basically stock with dual exaust and some add on severe duty parts, silicone hoses, oil cooler etc... You get many of the same parts with a trailer tow package(including the dual exhaust)...

And if you are talking Stang those are also stock with just some heavy duty add ons...

No i mean the hardcore police station hotrod models that they use to catch street racers and hotrods on the run. My friend from tuscon claims they have cougars for  that down there. Maybe cuz they're heavier to do more damage if they have to clip the runner.

From what a FLM service manager friend told me when I asked him about the "Police Interseptor" package. The engine has a more aggressive tune to it and that the various shops were supposed to detune them before resale to the public. The handling/cooling package is supposed to have slightly higher rates/capacities. Just like Ford has a "Severe OffRoad Package" only available to oil companies, Foreign country security companies. Those trucks are not available to the public period.

The CVPI engines and tuning are the same as the civvy models, except as Tom noted (heavy duty cooling, etc). I believe the speed limiter has been "tuned" out of them as well, but basic engine tuning is the same. I build police cars for a living, and I also "unbuild" them to get them ready for auction once decommissioned. There is no "police" calibration. CVPI's also have the usual rubber floors, vinyl back seats, disabled rear inner door handles and windows, de-chromed interior parts such as door handles, and exterior door side molding delete.

If there are any police stations that have "hot-rodded" vehicles they either did the hot-rodding themselves or had it done in the aftermarket. Some police departments also use vehicles that they seize as enforcement vehicles, so if they nab a street racer it's not out of the question that they have a car set up for street racing.
