84 or 88 motor into 87 car.

I've found a lead on 2 motors. One is in an 84, and the other is in an 88. I know the 88 would be fuel injected. my 87 is still tbi, would I be able to swap the fuel injected motor into my 87 without major hang ups? What about the 84? i figure it's still carb'd? I really want to get the car back onto the road, so i'm curious.

The '84 5.0L will be CFI unless it is from a Mustang/Capri 5.0L HO. Then it will be carb. If it is from a Canadian car it will be carb.

The '88 will be EFI which uses different heads than the earlier CFI engines. You will have to convert to the EFI or swap heads(likely already the problem with the '87).

The '84 3.8L will be CFI if U.S. Carb if Canadian.

I think your question is "with my current 87 car and harness, which motor should i put in" and if thats the case,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,
The 84 engine would be just plug and play for the most part but............

Your best to swap in the 88 motor because it fires the injectors exactly like the CFI or TBI sytems.  The 88 engines do not fire one injector at a time,, they fire three  at a time for "BANK 1" and then "BANK 2".  Other than that,,, the add ons for the 88 you will have to trial out as you go.  the dizzy is the same and you might as well plan on relocating the TFI somewhere else besides on the dizzy and be ahead of the game for heat reasons.

There is no difference in the two or 6 injectors system as far as your current computer is concerned.  Thunderchicken has a book with the layout of the 88 3.8 and you can see that the 88 eec and the 87 eec both utilize the same pins to fire the injectors. With that said,, imho,, it would all be a plug and play kind of thing.

It kinda sucks but the 88 engines are not a true SEFI or (batch fire) system like the FI V8's.
