Re: 1986 5.0 HO Bird FS Reply #37 – August 02, 2005, 01:50:07 PM Things are getting crazy around here. I got my '89 LSC and sold my '86 T-bird to my aunt to help pay for the Lincoln.. but now there are brake problems with the '86 that daily bad weather is keeping me from dealing with.. also kinda up in the air about what to do with my two non-functional cars.. and my fiance's job-finding efforts haven't turned out as rosy as we'd like. It's still a possibility that we could buy it from ya someday if it still hasn't sold.. but I don't know when. Any extra money I've had lately has gone into making the '89 LSC more roadworthy. If I could find someone who wanted my '88 T-bird as a project car, and sed up a few dollars past that, then I wouldn't mind picking up a functioning car for my fiance to drive.Did you solve whatever problems you were having with it recently? I thought I saw you post a problem or two with the car. Quote Selected
Re: 1986 5.0 HO Bird FS Reply #38 – August 02, 2005, 01:55:40 PM yeah it was having charging problems...but i got that fixed with a new plug FOR the new alternator that is on it.What is wrong with the 88? Why is it considered a project? What motor etc? Quote Selected
Re: 1986 5.0 HO Bird FS Reply #39 – August 02, 2005, 02:19:39 PM It's a 5.0 LX.. (SO, the 155 hp version thanks to the fake duals) needs a fuel pump. Also need to seal the top of the windshield. Front seat leather was shredded badly, but I stripped off most of the bad stuff and put cheap seat covers on it. Back seat leather is going bad at the top of the seat. Also the car badly needs a paint job. The clearcoat on the dark blue paint is completely trashed on half the car, so since it was a project car I started testing it by painting some parts deep jewel green. (grille, header panel, one fender) It's not far from being a daily driver, really.. if the fuel pump is the only remaining problem from keeping it running. (after I reassemble the top of the engine, anyway.. took off the upper and the injectors to soak them for a few days in paint thinner.. injectors are back on but the rail's not bolted down, etc. Again, mostly a bad weather and pain issue)It does appear to have one bad ring set in it, so it does smoke a little and was having issues blowing oil. I'm hoping one of my local friends buys it, ideally.. since he expressed a liking of the 87-88 body style more than the 83-86. I am the other way around.. I prefer the "4-eyed" Birds. That's why I still wouldn't mind finding a way to pick up the one you're selling IF I can clear some yard space for it, and if you haven't sold it to someone else by then. If you can find someone else interested in it before then, don't worry about me. Do what you have to do.I think I have too many oars in the water right now.. undecided on the '88 T-bird.. trying to figure out a way to deal with the '88 LSC.. (my other "project car".. thinking about trying to find someone with a parts Mark who wants a good body to build a running Mark out of, and working some kind of deal for a few parts I'd like to keep from it. I'd hate to just part out a car with such a solid mostly rust-free body) still dealing with the '86 T-bird for my aunt.. and working on my daily driver '89 LSC. Quote Selected
Re: 1986 5.0 HO Bird FS Reply #40 – August 02, 2005, 03:39:26 PM sounds like a good project. I really want to keep my 86, but funds/space dont permit. I dont have the time with going to school (3 classes at FAU) and working full time to have 2 project cars...Rick Quote Selected
Re: 1986 5.0 HO Bird FS Reply #41 – August 02, 2005, 05:57:58 PM Ugh.. my own '86 (well, the one going to my aunt temporarily) just started acting up pretty badly. This complicates things. At least she's paying for repairs. (probably brake work) Quote Selected
