Weight of a 2.3T, and T/5, together?

I was wondering what the weight is (roughly)...
This is for the engine/trans both, I'm gonna pull 'em together.
I gotta project going on, but I think it'll be too heavy for what I've got in mind.

hint: it's something smaller, but the wheel count doesn't change...
i want to see who can figure it out first, lol

Not like it's much of a c to guess though.
Yeah, was thinkin about pokin it in the little 2500 pound car, now THAT would be a peppy ride...
Shame, I wish I could find/afford a Miata...I've wanted one ever since I first saw a long time ago.

For now, it's a matter of keeping the engine "good", as it's going to be awhile before I get to the task of getting it in the car, I'm still hunting info on what I need to swap, and will probably have to have some help with the fabricating, if it requires any...
I'f I had the knowledge, and materiel, I'd weld up a tube frame of sorts, and set the car up right wheel drive, with the 2.3T and the 5 speed.
Of course, if I could do all that, it'd have a built 351w instead, to give that WindsorFocus a run for the $$$, lol

Hell, I'm still cleaning up the Escort after sitting in the barn for 9 years, you couldn't imagine the mouse smell. Little s :flame:
Anyway, I'm doing some searchin for info, if y'all know of anything related to what I'm doin, I'd be glad to check it out :D

A 2.3T runs about 385# fully dressed and the T-5 with the bellhousing is probably another 85#

Cool, thanks Chuck, I was kinda wondering the weight so I guess whether the barn rafter is strong enough to hold it all up for a few minutes...while I pull it out.

I think around 450 for a complete efi 5.0 is fairly close...add 100lbs for a 351w...they used to be a chart som'eres that had it all...I'll look it up.

Hey fordtruckfreek, there's a guy on turboford that has a 2.3 Turbo in an Escort, still as a FWD...I guess the 2.3 bolts up to the 1.9L transmission or something like that.

yeah, they bolt to the 1.6/1.9 trans., but the starter location has to be changed, and the oil pan may have to be "clearanced"...
Good thing is, it's easy as sin to set em up to run with the EEC for the 2.3t engine, just a re-pin a few wires..all is golden.
This idea looks more and more achievable every day.
Of course, I could always get an '84 Escort gt turbo manifold, and a garrett/air research turbo for the 1.9HO, and go that way. And I bet with a front mount i/c, it'd be nearly as fast as with a 2.3, with a bit less weight. There's an Escort GT site that has all that info, as well.
It kinda seems as if it's actually less work to either turbocharge the 1.9ho, or else stick a 2.3t in there, than it is to V8 my Thunderbird.

One thing is a fact though, sooner or later, that EGT WILL be a turbo engine car...
