Weight?

Hey guys.  For those of you that are as hung up on lightening your cars as much as I am.  How much weight have you been able to strip off your cars?  From my research, it looks to me like 4 eyes, with a 5.0 weighed in around 3100 lbs from the factory.  The 87 and newer models are a little heavier.  Have any of you been able to get your cars down much closer to 25, or 2600 lbs?  I know it would take a lot of stripping, but thought I'd ask.

Well, one of the ways to lessen weight is to remove all the sound deadener from under the carpet.
I'm going to do this as soon as it gets warm enough to make the stuff a bit more flexible.
Removing the spare, trunk carpet, and excess passengers/wife/girlfriends will all help to shed some weight, as well.
Also, if you can find one, and be willing to give up power seats, you can put in a manual seat track, both sides that'll save about 25-35 pounds, I'd say..
It's all about performance, and how far you're willing to go to get it...

yeah, I mean, a fella spends 10 grand on an engine, and wants to run 11's, but still wants to blast his brains out the windows with a 27,000 watt stereo, but then bitches when the car runs 13's when it's capable of 11's...you tell me whats wrong, hahaha;)
this'll probably piss some folks off, but....

Nascar does you see them talking into them all the time on TV.:flip:  Oh and also with Ford's calculaions I shaved off about 25 ounces or so with my polishing so far:D  If youre going to strip it down to as little as possible take off ALL accessories AC included as well as the heater and heater box. pull out all the interior fabricate a dash panel or buy one of the store bought ONE SIZE FITS ALL ones so you can mount the necessary guages. leave 1 seat. Take off anything that wont make the car go and stop and steer basically leave a spot to plant your backside and only the guages totally necessary and you might be able to get it that low. of course youre only going to be able to drive in the summer unless you wear coveralls.:D

I weighed my 86 ls, 5.0, with most options(pw,pl,ps, ect, no sun roof or anything) with my tools(I guestimate 150 pounds) it was 3860 or so.

I weighed it at the dump, before and after.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

that's alot of weight to cut out of a car. Although if you replace the steel panels with what fiberglass panels they make you might be able to get a little closer

The combined weight of all of the A/C components that reside under the hood is said to be 48 pounds.  If you were to remove the heater system (box and all behind the dash) it probably be another 45 pounds or so.
Nate has sed off a lot of the sound insulation in his passenger compartment (I think he may have done the trunk as well)

I took all the sound insulating mats (the fiber stuff) out of my old Mustang, but left all the tar junk in. I don't think I'll ever do that on a daily driver again.

You've got to admit though that there is something cool about a car that runs 13s and still has power everything, plus a sound system and even AC/heat.  You could remove the winshield wiper stuff.  Don't those little wiper motors weigh quite a bit themselves?  I know a kid from school did that to his 3000GT VR4 and it was like 30lbs worth of .

yeah I would think that to get it that low youre  near gonna have to leave it not much more then a shell at least not without cutting out anything structural. I could be wrong and probably am:D. Honestly though I think my door sticker said it was like a 3400 or 3600 lb car. We're talking almost a thousand lbs. If you figure out a way to do it post it so we can all read.
