I found out years ago that there are several key ingredients for a good finish.

Good tips, another thing you can do is to stand the can of paint up in a couple inches of warm water for a few minuites before you paint, the paint will flow out nicer when warm, just gotta be more careful of runs. Shake the can regularily! i've gotten great paint jobs out of No-Name paint but colour variety is limited with the cheap ones.

Ah, how could I forget about warming the paint! Yep, you can put it in hot water, or leave it in the sun (what I usually did) or put it in front of a space heater. Definitely helps.

do you paint your parts before install? Im thinking it would turn out nicer if painted in different pieces? I started on the 87 GT today and while I was out buying glue I found a 70 boss 429 so I had to get it lol
