Carfax Reports. Reply #30 – December 25, 2005, 12:28:37 AM My header panel had some cracks, the metal peice that the second hood latch hooked to was mangled and the bumper cover needed re-aligned on mine plus the pass. fender was replaced. I think mine was in a small fender-bender that wasnt reported. I was told the fender was replaced due to rust, but after looking at the front I was like, Yeaah:bs: Quote Selected
Carfax Reports. Reply #33 – December 27, 2005, 02:06:03 PM Everything checked out fine.No wrecks or major repairs. But,i do find a curiousity. Shipped to dealer blah, blah, blah on 4/13/85 Titled on 7/31/95 Titled new owner(me) on 1/29/02When i bought it,it had 94,200 miles on it.i wonder what happened between 85 and 95 til it was registered.Maybe the dealer was keeping it in a personal collection for a while?Makes a man wonder. Carfax Reports. Reply #34 – December 27, 2005, 03:18:03 PM My own Carfax had a weird discrepancy too. I am the third owner, confirmed and everything...yet the Carfax report showed only the original delivery date, and my purchase of the car, with nothing inbetween. The second owner had a used car lot though, so that may explain a little bit. And I know he got the car from an auction when the car was just 2 years old. But I still haven't found information concerning the original owner or dealership. Which goes to prove that Carfax can definitely be fooled. It's nice to have, and can sometimes pull in useful information, but it's not any kind of guarantee whatsoever. Quote Selected
Carfax Reports. Reply #35 – December 27, 2005, 04:47:31 PM Mine reported no accidents however my passenger door, fender, front bumper, header panel, and headlights had all been replaced before I got the car. The hood is the original and shows no signs of being straightened. Either they were driving with no insurance and it wasn't reported or it was a deal where they just replaced everything themselves for cost effectiveness. Quote Selected
Carfax Reports. Reply #36 – December 27, 2005, 06:43:18 PM Carfax is only as good as the info it receives. When I looked up my T-Bird it shows a NVIS of March 1988 but the first recorded title was 1997. This, of course, is because the Nova Scotia DMV only began offering this information since 1997. Your own state or province's DMV may have started reporting to Carfax at any time, and it's unlikely Carfax would have any info before that.Carfax relies on various public and private sources to get its information. If your car was wrecked at some point but not reported to the DMV it may not show up on carfax unless the insurance company involved reports it. With our older cars it's unlikely that Carfax would have any info from the early years of the car's life because nobody would have reported it. Any one of our cars couold have been wrecked, burned, flooded, etc before Carfax became mainstream - it's highly unlikely that the reporting agencies (DMV's, insurance companies, etc) would go back through the records of every vehicle ever titled or wrecked before 1997 or so and give that info to Carfax. In other words: Carfax is good for the 90% of used car shoppers out there looking for a late model new car. For those of us stuck in the 80's it's of little use other than saying "Yes, your car did exist". Quote Selected

Carfax Reports. Reply #41 – December 29, 2005, 10:23:20 PM Thanks for the carfax.Only thing is it says nothings been reported on it. I know for a fact that the car went off a logging road in the winter and slid down a ravine on its roof like a tobaggan and hit a tree when it was a couple years old Had the top, rear windows and front bumper replaced... oh well it is a 16 year old car afterall. Will have to dig up the t-birds paperwork Quote Selected
