Confusing Rough Idle.... November 20, 2005, 09:08:11 PM Ok, I know what the automatic response to this question will be:"Change the timing"...But folks, I shouldn't have to do that. When I got my 87 t-bird v6, It ran just fine. No major vibrations, and everything seemed peachy.Of course, then came my several breakdowns which resulted in my changing out the T.F.I. module, changing out all 6 plugs, and for the heck of it, I even threw in an Oil change as well. However, will all of that done, the car just runs really rough at idle. I have no idea why either. As I said, when I purchased this automobile 3 months ago, it did not have that problem. Ever since those breakdowns however, I just can't get it to run like it used to.When I changed out the TFI chip, I solved the breakdown problem. I temporarily solved the roughness when I changed out the plugs, but now it is back again. I have no idea why it's doing this. Any Ideas? Quote Selected
Confusing Rough Idle.... Reply #1 – November 20, 2005, 10:23:57 PM Pull the plugs and see if any are fouled. Also, did you change the wires and cap/rotor when you changed the plugs? Quote Selected
Confusing Rough Idle.... Reply #2 – November 20, 2005, 11:13:42 PM I changed the plugs about 2 weeks ago. The other 3 about a month earlier. Once I changed the Passenger side plugs about 2 weeks ago, I thought the problem was gone. And Temporarily it was. The car ran just like it did when I bought it. However, about 1 week ago it started running real rough again. No, I didn't change the wires or the car/rotor. Quote Selected

Confusing Rough Idle.... Reply #4 – November 21, 2005, 02:55:08 PM Well, I just changed the Rotor and Cap, but the vibration is still there when idleing. What's worse is that I can't seem to figure out how to adjust the timing with all of that Throttle body . Any suggestions? Quote Selected

Confusing Rough Idle.... Reply #7 – November 21, 2005, 03:54:00 PM Timing ain't gonna make a engine idle rough(at least not intermintantly), check the vaccum lines for cracks etc.31 is EGR, which may be your rough idle if the valve is sticking... May be able to pull the valve and clean it... The 94 & 44 are air management problems with the TAB and TAD solenoids. These codes are often vaccum line related. Quote Selected
