Emissions

i just passed it with no problems! i was dreading the day, since my car was ragged on bad before i got it, and was saying my HEGO was showing lean

i went in there, timing at 14*, 93 octane, knock sensor disconnected, and the factory cat, and it passed like no other

HC
-standard: 1.8
-me: .602

CO
-standard: 30.0
-me: 2.13

NOX
-standard: 2.8
-me: .313

the guy walks up to me to give me the paper, said i passed, and i was just like "NO shiznit?!" he was like "yeah dude, passed easily", i siad "that a ****ing suprise, holy shiznit, i didnt think it would pass", he looked at me and said "yeah...me neither"  :giggle:
It's Gumby's fault.

yeah well you prolly have the same emmisions as a v-8 so I am not that surprised. Is this on the 4 or the 8?

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

I'll see if I can pass this time around. Have to go in the first week or two of September I think.
Probably isn't going to pass though. :disappoin

So what happens if you don't pass ? I heard that in California your car gets impounded, but that was just a friend over a beer, so I don't know how true that is.

You don't get impounded here. What you do get is a few months extra to figure out the problem and then a free retest. If the car fails again, you have two options.
a. spend about $500 on emissions related repairs and get a waiver for the next two years.
b. Keep trying to get the car to pass at which you have to pay $15 for each test. I'm not sure if there's a limit on how many consecutive tests you can fail and whatnot.

Here's the really stupid thing. I initially recieved my notice in November 2004. The car was due by January 5, 2005 or I would be fined and recieved a ticket if I got pulled over.
January 4th, I go in and ask for an extension because my car was not running( I had the top of the motor apart). They extended me through May 15, 2005 with no questinos asked.
May 10th, I take the test for the first time since I got my notice 5 months ago. The car fails. Now they give me until about September 15th to figure out what's wrong and to bring it back for a free retest.
This state seems so picky about the emissions but I have gone 3 years now not being compliant. I got through the first time around because I swapped my motor to the HO(exact swap according to them) which cost more than $500 so I got the waiver. Don't know what I'm going to do this time yet but I sure don't have $500 to throw at this thing right now.

I must be the only person here who hopes the cougar doesn't come back before 2008. That's because then, the car will be 20 years old and a discontinued model meaning I could get historic or street rod tags and have no more emissions. So three more years of this BS.

Sorry for the rant

passing is always good

I am happy you did

I always sweat my test even though I always pass

I'd love to see the numbers on a city bus or govermnet vehicle  It'd make the worst of us look like tree huggers

Lucky!   That was on the dynometer to I assume?

My 5.0 HO did:

HC: 0.3232
CO: 1.13
NOX: 1.284

Is this also with the extra exhaust holes/leaks in strategic places?  :hick:

I can't tell you how glad I am that i don't have to worry about this bullshiznit. I'm sure my car, with its smog pump disconnected, the cats somewhere in a landfill, and a full dual exhaust would fail miserably...

yeah, i was on the rollers

my exhaust actually was leaking, but not too bad, right around the tail pipes, i have no lers, just some flex tube, and we all know how sealed up the flex tube is

that, and i ran the living piss out of the car on the way there, i ran out third gear, and most of fth, had my speedo pegged, just for some extra measure
