the link is very imformative but it did not have the exact info I was looking for. I would like to know if I can use any other strut beside the stock adjustable type on my 88 Turbo Coupe

You actually cover a pretty broad range there....

Well, what do you mean by "interchange"?  Stuff that us a direct replacement, or stuff that is (easily) swappable?

Not much is a direct replacement.

My 83 Tbird though has (had) front spindles and brakes, front seats, axles, wheels from an SN-95.

In short, yes you can.  I couldn't tell you exactly which part nubmer, but I know you can use different struts.  If not, TC's would be off the road, or people would be driving them around with bad struts.

Yes...you can get by with any 87+ Mustang strut if you need to.  I've used both Fox and SN-95 struts on both lowered and stock height Tbirds/Cougars....

Do I have to change spindles or anything else to use a Fox or SN95 strut? I need to replace what I have because with it set to Firm it rides worse than a 59 Caddy.

Reread my post and look at the years listed.  I didn't mention swapping spindles did I ? ;)

Is the firm light actually on??? Reason I ask is usually the switch contacts are dirty, not allowing the system to switch to firm. When the system is in soft(auto), there is almost no damping action and they float just like a '59 Caddy.

If the auto ride system is completely inoperative, you can remove the actuaters and there is a small pin in the top of the strut/shock that can be rotated. Every 1/4 turn changes from firm to soft...

your the man chuck, as far as the light, it is on but I talked to the previous owner today and he said the they had already been replaced so no need o worry about an electrical problem. it is obvious that struts are worn out. I appreciat ethe help so far and I hope I won't annoy anyone with all the other questions I am sure I will have.
