Clutch question....

The ball Tom is referring to is the one inside the bell housing that the clutch fork pivots on.  The stock one typically just bolts down and there is no adjustment however you can buy an adjustable one and change the angle of the clutch fork which can move it more towards the back of the car thus requiring a longer clutch cable.  I just switched from a King Cobra over to a RAM HD clutch and my pedal is down on the floor as well.  My adjustable cable is pretty old and I have a couple of new ones so I am going to change it out and readjust the firewall adjuster as well.

I would think that all clutch quadrants and firewall adjusters are not the same just as not all throttle bodies are the same.  Sure they all do the same function but over time some don't do it as well as others.  I have the Steeda units on both of my cars on recommendation from several others and have had zero issues.

Good luck with the stock clutch as they are kind of marginal at best with a stock 5.0 car but that is just a personal preference.  The King Cobra was a good clutch but with the 331 I did not think it would hold up much longer with the added torque.

I certainly will need a better clutch to handle the current engine, but as I stated, I needed one NOW, and there's nowhere in this town to get anything but stock. I'll do some research and buy a better clutch eventually, but for now, it'll do alright.

I took the Bird down to get gas a bit ago, and the clutch pedal seems to have a couple or so inches of initial play before I feel real tension. Maybe it's the cable, maybe it's the clutch. I may need a new cable. Mine looks fine, but, could be mildly stretched.
