I thought the 85's had the backup lights right behind the bird emblem (tail lights). Late 85' maybe?? My bird has a build date of 11/85.....

Still a Beautiful car

Looks to be the correct taillight.

'83-'84 shared the same basic style (Heritage had more chrome trim) and '85-'86 shared the style as on the car in the auction.

interesting car......manual windows, and a blank console so no power mirrors or power seats either.    I doubt that it had a factory dual exhaust either...... still a minty fresh car!

Yea, not many options.

It didn't say factory dual exhaust but it looks like exhaust tips on both sides. ;)

With the lack of options it has to have been special ordered. No dealer in their right mind would order a 5.0 car sans power windows, locks, and mirrors.

Looks to be in excellent shape. I wonder what wheels it had new? I'd still rock it with the Ten-holes but I'd add Thunderbird center caps.

It also has the chrome rocker trim, which i would think would come with an Elan, and not a base Bird.........very odd.

I agree. Not a typical car for a dealer to order for stock in this configuration.

It may have been ordered with the TRX wheels which could be an explanation for the change to the 10-holes.

I thought that at first too, but they were a stand-alone option on the ‘elan model as well.

It appears to be a base Thunderbird with the following factory options:

  • 5.0 liter V8 with O/D trans.
  • Air conditioning
  • Wide bodyside moldings
  • Tilt steering wheel
  • Cruise control
  • Interval wipers
  • Dual bodyside and decklid accent stripes
  • Hood stripes
  • Electronic digital clock
  • Bright rocker panel moldings

Obviously the 15” 10-hole wheels were added along with the dual exhaust.

Very nice looking car that’s for sure.

Probably by some old guy that wasn't impressed with all that new fangled gadgetry... Sorta like me and the touch screen, keyless systems, etc of today...

I know of a ultra low mileage '70 LTD the orig owner ordered without A/C and even had the std P/S deleted, along with the automatic trans for three on the tree... He also had a '67 Falcon with no options other than the 289 V8, otherwise it was bare bones...

Could have been a 'Value Leader' also...that's when dealers got a car that was not loaded but still allowed people with a lower price range to get into the model. I think all dealers had to get at least one Value Leader per model year, per model. That explains a lot of the cars with vent windows and crank-up windows: no a/c, hence manual ventilation. ;)
