to each his own.. it's a life style and quite frankly, i don't care what anyone thinks about the trucks i build, except me and the owner of said truck.. 99% of us don't do IRS, it's lame and causes more problems then it could ever be worth - not an opinion, completely true statement.. and for the solid axles, i cut the frame about half way between the cab and axle tube and replace it with a c-notch abd rear clip made out of 2x3 or 2x4 steel, which turns out to be a HELL of a lot stronger than the stock frames

the holes are all covered with wheel tubs and 'bridge covers,' unless there's nice fab work to show off.. you seem to be more about practicality, and i can respect that.. but for me, it's 110% the opposite.. but i'm also not saying bags are impractical, either.. most of the trucks i built are daily driven, a couple of which are owned by private contractors who use them on a daily basis for work

A tasteful drop I can understand, and appreciate...on the other hand, I also have appreciation for a 7 second Thunderbird....the practicality of it is beyond useless to me though.
I'd want to drive the  thing for 120 miles, and not down a strip.

I also can stomach a 3-4 inch lift to fit some bigger tires...the guys that spend 3000 on a lift kit to put 44' Boggers...I just laugh. Again, to me, It's useless if I have to have a ladder to get up in the back to haul a load of wood in to the house.

Not knockin' 'em, just other things I'd spend my money on...if I had any money, and anything worthy of spending it on, lol

I wasn't knocking anyone in particular. I just see a truck as something for work. Otherwise, its just a cramped two seater. I like the stock height of the f-250 with tow package, or the chevy 2500hd or 3500 regulars for ride height. I don't need to step up, and on the fords I didn't even really have to duck at all. If you can't get a ton or two of gravel in a truck, I consider it almost useless. I have thought about getting an s-10 or ranger, just for bigger things I didn't want in my station wagon, like an engine or dirt or something.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

Ofcourse you won't lower a truck that's meant for work or is a dd but if you are building a cruiser/showcar if it's done tastefully I think lowering looks good imo.

i didn't really take it as directed towards me, i read what you said above.. i was just expressing my opinion on the subject.. i agree with your work truck statement, but if you don't need the truck for hauling such things and want to build it for show, that's a completely different scenario.. all of my trucks are either lifted or lowered, according to the drivetrain (4x4, up for mud.. 2wd for appearance).. the red/black S10 i built (as pictured in an earlier post on page 1) was used several times to haul large parts like rears, motors, transmissions.. it had a 2.5 'iron duke' and a 5 speed, so it was anything but a work truck when it rolled off the assembly line

If I could do it cheaply...I'd lift my blue chevy just enough to run 33's...but nothing bigger. It doesn't stop well enough to please me, anyway. (must be used to Ford's overeager whoa! powers, lol)

I'd only lift it a bit so I could play in mud a lot more. Not because it would be a necessity.

Im with ya LOL...Ford lightnings and the Ram SRT-10s are cool, even back in the early 90s you had Lightning and the 454 SS, but I can't help but think of how useless the thing is, being a TRUCK! Again people here must have nerves of STEEL to ride on that little suspension travel, stiff springs and rubber bands for tires. I'm not saying our entire roadway system in this state is post-apocalyptic, but someone from California would think so in several towns. I don't know how they do it. Escalades that have the all-too-familiar setup probably don't ride like a log wagon but nowhere near what it can with some meaty tires. If I'm gonna buy a Caddy boy I'd better feel like I'm on a cloud.

aah, torsion keys up front.. you can get 3" lift keys pretty cheap off ebay.. if it was 1 year older, you could just grab some junkyard leafs and add them to the spring packs.. but 3" keys up front and 3" shackles for the rear should have you clearing 33's nicely.. you may get a little rub at full lock if you went with tires any wider than 12.50.. 15.00's would definitely rub before you get to full lock lol
