i believe it.. 4.6's are gutless at the bottom end in stock form. it's mostly in their stock tune for emmissions.. a good tune and a cai will do a lot for idle-2k

i don't like sn95's or their motors.. i had a customer who would come in like clockwork, once a month, with his 99 GT.. i hated and still hate that car.. mt soul died a little each time i worked on the car. the first thing he wanted was SLP loudmouth lers, which make the 4.6 sound like a trans am.. loud, raspy as hell and overly obnoxious.. i finally turned the guy away when he asked if i'd do a lightening svt motor swap

i don't like loud and obnoxious, i like a decent tone and loud when you put it to the floor. you're right, SC's don't have any rumble, but they certainly don't sound like a farm tractor, that's a lousy comparison.. most people are surprised at what's in my capri and blue tc because they're not as loud as you'd expect them to be. both cars have flowmaster 60 series AND dynomax race bullets on them.. the race bullets are mounted up by the trans crossmeber with a 3bolt header  on the back, so i can disconnect the full length exhaust at the track.. i'm extremely satisfied with how they sound, not much louder than a 5.0 stang with flowmasters.. 9 times out of 10, you hear the turbo over the exhaust from inside the car.. that's how my SC was with the 10% pulley and silencer holes blocked off

it also has a lot to do with how well both have been maintained.. i've seen some pretty hurt 4.6's get spanked by great running 4 banger/t5 stangs

The only 4.6 I ever really ran side by side with was a 94 cougar. Freind's little sisters car. Inherited it with around 32k. Who ever took off first won everytime. I am really not too impressed with most of the 4.6's. Top end, the 86 pulled on it ever so slightly.

My freinds 2001 gt does not even pass my 88 wagon till I'm doing 30-35mph. There is just no bottom end to them. Once they get going they really scoot though.

I still think an h.o. swapped cat or bird with a stick would take on a 99-04 mustang gt.
