I have had one of my cars towed out of my backyard, behind a 6 foot security fence. Around here, on duty cops get bribed by tow truck drivers. If they see a car that dosen't look like it will drive, they will tell the tow truck drivers, and the tow drivers will give them money out of pocket. I have watched them do it before. In one day, I had my 86 black car towed, my dad's 86 gray cougar towed, my dad's 91 crown vic wagon towed, and my sisters 96? lumina. All in the same day, and all but one was driven in less then 24 hours, and all but one had insurance and current registration.

I honestly dont think you could exceed the cost of a new car buy installing new *stock* parts everywhere in your coug our tbird. Its just plain impossible. You could revamp the entire drivetrain/engine/suspenstion and still come out ahead.

You live in Utah.  I visit Salt Lake/Ogden regularly for work.  It's beautiful....but they have some seriously F'ed up laws.  I wouldn't be surprised if they had laws allowing them to tow vehicles out of driveways even if they still had the dealer sticker on the window.  You probably just looked at city official the wrong way.

I know I have pissed off some people I shouldn't have. I got pulled over on my dad's 81 Yamaha virago motorcycle. The registration expired before I was born, and there was no insurance, and I didn't have a motorcycle endorsp00get. I followed them to to tow yard, asked them how much it would cost to get it out, and they said $400. To have it towed less then 5 miles and not even unloaded off the flat bed yet. Me and my dad went down there that night with a set of bolt cutters and drove it home. They called the cops on us, and my dad played like he had no idea what they were talking about. The cops said that we had just as much right to pull it out as they did to keep it.

I guarantee I have made more enemies then friends. I get really inventive when I get pissed off. I went out and bought a super soaker and a gallon of gas when they tried to tow my wifes car. Slept in it overnight, and had a pack of smokes and a lighter to keep me company.

Next time your in utah, you should give me a call. Maybe meet up somewhere. Now that you think I'm a crazed lunatic.

Man, the fact that you have to get so inventive is like a flashing neon sign that says "stay the hell away from Utah" I can't believe the  you've had to put up with.

Don't take it the way it sounds over the internet. If I owned a gun and saw somebody screwing around with my car, I'd be out there in 2 seconds with the gun.

If someone wants me to pay $400+ for towing a car that has no reason to be towed, and I paid $400 or less for the car, you may as well be stealing the car in my mind.

Well, I've given up on the bird ever showing up again. I can't say it was a cool car or that I'll miss it, but it did have potential. Today I picked up an 84 Monte Carlo for free and paid $350 to have it towed from the Seattle area back to portland. It needs to have the timing chain replaced and a tune up, but over all I think it was an awsome deal. Should have it running tomorrow. Now I have a '68 289/302 intake that I don't need. Guess I'll post it on Craigslist tomorrow. But first I had a question about FE stuff. What is it, and why are people wanting it? How can I identify it? the numbers on the intake are C8ZE-9425-A  7M27. So I know it is a 68 Mustang 289/302 intake made in 12/27/67, but that's it. Any help would be appreciated.

Your intake could be worth $50-$75 to someone wanting to restore a Mustang to original(I'm assuming it's a 4bbl)...

FEs are Ford's first Big Block engine introduced in 1958(actually there is another BB series[MEL]also introduced in '58, but those are basically a Lo Po Lincoln engine)... Originally in 332 & 352cu in sizes, FEs evolved into the 406, 427 Hi-Po engines(NASCAR) as well as the street 390GT('66-'69) & 428 Cobra Jet of '68-'70(there was also some Hi Po 390 in '61)... Bread and butter 352, 390, 410 & 428 powered many Galaxies, Mercs, Tbird, etc and excepting for the 428 don't have as much value as their Hi Po brethren...  This group was replaced by the 385 BB series which include the 429 & 460...

I have a 428 Cobra Jet in this guy, 1969 Fairlane Cobra... The '69-'71 Cobras were Fords answer to the Plymouth Road Runner and are basically strippers with the 428Cj 4 speed and 9" rear with 31 spline axles std... Mine is some what optioned with bucket seats, console, PB(no PS) and a few other goodies... BTW '69 was the only year the Cobras had a 428CJ, 70 had a 429 and '71 had 351 Clevelands or 429 optional...
