Hypothetical question guys & gals

Way off subject but trying to get innocent bystanders opinions on a situation. I wont say my role in this senario so as to leave it non-biased. If you and your fill in the blank( son, father, mother, wife,gf etc) had travelled 1/2 way across the country to pick up a car that you both really really liked, restored it together, took it to shows, parades, etc. would you sell it without ever mentioning it to the other person. As far as money attatched to this senario one person paid for the car and the other did the restoration work. Again just looking for outside opinions and I thank you very much for that in advance.

No.  It's more than discourtious to do that.  At labor of love is still labor.  At least the other person should have the right of first refusal to purchase the car.

Just my opinion.

Nah, thats not right. Legally whatever name was on the title was the "owner" but that still isnt right. Should have asked and if you agreed you could have atleast split the money. Or like mentioned above, you should have had the first bid on it.

Thats pretty low. i don't think I could. On the other hand, if it was my car, and I really really needed money, one might have to.

I can't really make up my mind on this one.

I think we can figure out your role in this without you having to tell us. I mean, would you be asking about it if you were the one who sold the car? I don't think so because you wouldn't have given it a second thought. Having said that, it is hard for me to believe that two people who were that close on the buying and restoration of a car would not have been in close discussion about its fate. It's a tough situation when friends are involved with the same car, but my opinion mirrors the other posters, both should have a say in what happens, first right of refusal at a minimum.

I think the proper condolence for us to use right now is, "We are sorry for your loss."

Thanks for the replies. Just was curious if I was nuts in thinking this was wrong. By the way FLSTCI71, good deduction on your part. Bet you hadnt figured it was my father that did it though. Worst part is he traded it and I found out when I found it on ebay listed at a lincoln dealer.

Whoa, that blindsided me! Your dad? That's really sad. Does he realize what he did?

It was a 37000 original mile t bird. Bought it out in the midwest about 3 years ago with some frt end damage, it had introduced itself to Bambi. Got it all fixed and put back to normal. Even found a correct factory 8 track player and put it back to original. The place it came from had cut the dash to put in a cd player. I had found the pieces to fix that over the winter as well as some others. Stuff wasnt even put in the car yet. I just listed them on ebay yesterday. If any one of you guys has one of these land yachts let me know and I will stop the auction and you can have them.

Oh man..that totally sucks!

Is there any way you can afford to get it from the dealer?? (What dealer has it?? I'm curious to see it, at least online).

My son wants a t-bird so badly...I just wish we could afford to get one for him.

My son said I should buy it back also but as much as I liked it I dont want it now. I will get a different one, never was overly in love with the color(Medium Chestnut Diamond Fire) it was straight out of the 70's though. Its at the Ford dealer in town and I would imagine you know who that would be since there is only one.

On a different note. What year Bird does your son want? As soon as I get around to finishing my XR7 I will be selling my 87 Bird.
