My Gf and I bought an 06 Fusion SE with the V6 a few weeks ago. I love it! It only had 15,888 miles on it, not bad for a 3 year old car, and very well taken care of. We just had a sunroof put in and the windows tinted. We also kept our old dd's, I have a 99 ZX2, and she has a 96 Sable, both have over a 100,00 miles on them, so we wanted something we could trust other than the Bird to travel in.

I think if I was gonna do an engine swap in an RX-7 it'd be a 4-cyl turbo. Maybe a 2.3t, maybe a Volvo 2.0. A V8 would ruin the character of the RX-7. Unless, of course, you swapped in an all-aluminum engine, such as an LS1...

Actually from my reading a V8 is only adding 50ish lbs. and improves the weight distribution closer to 50/50. Grassroots motorsports has the $200X challenge each year and a V8 RX-7 won two years in a row. I've considered doing one of these as a side project before. Rotary engines are a bit on the heavy side unlike what people think and they are horrible on gas and have almost ZERO torque.

Yeah, I know the rotaries are thirsty (for both fuel and oil) and torqueless. I didn't realize, and have trouble believing, that they are almost as heavy as a cast iron 5.0 though...

Yeah but think of a 5.0 powered RX-7 would be like a Ford/Mazda Corvette. It'd be like that. The world isn't in short supply of RX-7's with bad apex seals and almost NO compression. Beautiful thing is there is LOTS of aftermarket.
