Charcoal Interior

Are the 83-86 Cloth Parts of the Charcoal Interiors roughly the same color as the trunk carpeting?
Pics?
Coolcats shows this as charcoal but almost looks black, Would be great if thats the case. :hick:

And does anyone know if carpeting out of Marks or Mustangs and such would fit with some tpuppies and what-not?

I'm just looking into my options for a dark/black carpet replacement.

The factory Charcoal color (1983-85) is ligther in color than the grey of the steering column in 1985-88 cars. It does not really relate to the trunk mat color. It is also not really close to black.

I am not sure about the carpeting from other cars...they would probably be about the same side-to-side, with differences in the wheelbase making front-to-back dimensions undoubtedly different. I'd bet more on the Mark VII carpeting working, though. Don't forget that they all had floor shifters with console...if you don't, you'll have a hole in your carpeting. :)

Although the price of new carpeting has gone up over the past few years (remember, nylon is made from oil), I would still feel safer putting new carpeting in vs. trying to make used carpeting work. Unless it's in almost mint shape, it seems like a losing battle to me. But, then again, you do what your budget allows.

I haven't found any aftermarket carpet that is as high quality as the factory.

A local trim shop suggested pulling the carpet and taking it to a car wash. Spray it with a high pressure hose to get it clean then air dry it so it doesn't mold. If the problem is dirt and stains, you might try that. If you've got wear spots, maybe a trim shop can fix them.

That is a good idea. Scrub the living hell out of it and power wash it. One of these days...

The shop said not to use any soap, just water. Knowing how the world works better than they, I ignored their advice and went for the hot soapy water. It took me about 4 times as long (and 4 times as many quarters) to get the carpet clear of soap residue. FYI.

That is very true. Factory was at least 16-oz, with upper models (TC, XR7, LS, LX) having 24-oz. The thickest correct aftermarket carpeting is 14-oz and that's according to the mfr. spec...in reality it feels a lot thinner.

But intact, non-ripped, non-worn, 20+ year old carpeting today? With the way boneyards are junking cars? And in your specific color? It's getting to be a longshot.

More power to you if you find something...that is wonderful. Otherwise, don't be surprised if you can't. That's all I'm saying.

I was going to use spot shot and scrub it in the car, then pull it and repeat. Then power wash it. Possible repeat SpotShot then power wash again.

The lady liked her coffee + lack of cup holders = Wonderful stains!

HAET COFFEE STAINS.

I know its a real longshot, But im hoping to get lucky at the yard this summer.

Anyone had any experience with dying carpets?
Seems like a decent factory charcoal carpet w/ black dye would be pretty straight forward~But how would it hold up is the real question...
