i know how you feel,so sorry! i'm not a big fan of slush bucket tranny too!!!
i had got a 50k mileage 1 owner 74 460 cougar xr7 out of there farm field. the cougar had been sitting same spot for 20 years.
after getting it running. i found the tranny bad (no forward but would back up) so i called a local amco tranny shop. they told me $350.00 to rebuild it. after they had it for a week i called them to see what taking so long. they tell me, that they been waiting for me to bring another core because "everything in that one was junk". so i get them a core.
after another week, i call to see what up. they tell me they be waiting for me to pick it up. by this time ,i'm up set by the time i get to the amco shop.
when i walk in. the manager waiting for me with this $750.00 bill. i ask what happen to the $350.00 on the copy of the work order i got??? he says something to the fact like that what it took to rebiuld your tranny and do you want the car or not?sure i do ,let me write you a check and where is my other tranny !
as he give me the keys and say we put is in the trash because i didn't need it.
so i get in the cougar . i drive around the block back to the amco shop because it won't come out of 1st gear.
when i get back to shop. the owner say he will call me when it repair. i say in not so nice words i'm staying in your fxxking shop untill it fix .
couple hour later and new valve body. i get to drive my74 460 cougar all the way home(15 mile) and that tranny sound like it had a gear drive timing chain and it wasn't there before!
when i got home , i call the amco shop to ask what the fxxk up with this? the owner say something to the fact like i damage the tranny so there no warranty! so i called the bank and put a stop payment on there check.
2 weeks later i get a call from our nice amco manager.wanting payment for there great service.
my answer was:
we agreed on i gave you complete car plus $350.00 but you wanted extra tranny and i got a bill of $750.00. so untill you give me back the extra tranny and fix the tranny thats in the cougar and reduce the bill to $350.00! here my attorney phone number and he been waiting for your call:flip: .
you know a couple years later. i found the cougar was to far gone to save. so i put the engine/ tranny combo into a my high school 1972 mustang. at least the gear drive tranny sound cool in the mustang!:D
