No Ac and 1 window, shorter belt?

The window is ganna be fixed this weekend, but my a/c is just a big lump on my car.  hell the smog pump isnt even hooked up to the header but its still on there.  first, should i sell the compressor (which is good but the rest of the system leaks)  or should i get in that rat nest and get it working?  i got the car with 94K and it was dead (leaking) and im at 160+K miles now.  and second can i bypass the a/c and smog pump with a shorter belt.  if so what size would i need?  it sucks, 95 degrees, 1 window, no a/c... i feel like that moonshine runner from nascar in the 70's (junior johnson) that drove around in such heat (no a/c with the windows up in 90+ degree weather) to get used to a hot racecar. lol.  what would you guys do?

to be honest i dont need it, i've grown accustomed to no a/c and if it gets too bad i can turn on the a/c blowers and get fresh air in the cabin.  how long would it be off the road as i get the a/c and all the lines etc off?  like a weekend or week?

btw thanks for the belt diagram i saved it and will be using it.

I thought that the Mustang set used a shorter belt set up since the brackets hug the block tighter.

Without A/C (using the Ford relocation kit and a Mustang power steering bracket) I ran a 87.5" belt.....Didn't realize the difference till you mentioned it and I looked back at my notes....
People with no smog and no A/C can actually get away with a 72.5" belt on a Cougar or T-bird FWIW....It's a TIGHT fit.

Stock Cougar/T-Bird 5.0 belt with a/c, p/s and smog pump: 93"
Stock Mustang 5.0 belt with a/c, p/s and smog pump: 91.5"

yea when i looked into the eliminators they were all for the mustang.  dunno about the march kit (i was at summit).  i guess thats the way im ganna go i guess.  easiest and its not all that big of a chunk of money for the eliminators.  is there any worth in a ac compressor?  or just s?  i saw some guy i think trying to sell one to no avail.  would it be wise to hang onto just incase someone starts looking for either the smog pump (good condition) and the compressor or componants?

I use the a/c eliminator kit, and  just ran a short belt  (72.5).Works great, and like Demon said,it is tight.I'm actually going to re-install my a/c equipment this fall.It gets really uncomfortable on long trips in the summer, especially with the family. It doesn't use enough power to make a difference,so,re-install,here I come.

Look at the belts for other models of fords from the same year with the same sized motor. I know today at work I sold a lady a A/c belt for her 88 crown vic. Yeah I said A/c belt that is because like the 88 3.8l the crown vic used one belt for everything except the A/c and smog pump. If you go with the A/c bypass pulley kit you can reuse the same belt. only now you have no A/c. Now if you would like to keep the A/c go and buy a seal kit for it. Then dig in and replace all those O-rings. Then have it rechecked to find the leaks. Then if the leaks were just the O-rings like most you are in business. Get it vaced down to make sure things are all sucked out and that the system holds vac as well. Then get the stuff and Filler up. You can go with R134a or Freeze 12. Both you can get without a license.
