The add-on sounds like a good feature, but what happened to people knowing grammar and spelling without a machine or some program doing it for them.  Don't get me wrong -- it is a useful tool, but I feel it should not be used as a crutch.

Yet something else that the human race gives up; the ability to communicate through written word.  I guess all those conspiracy theorists who say machines will rule humans one day have some bone of contention;)

Wow,  This thread got railroaded....

It can be used as a crutch. I learned to spell and use proper grammar by reading as much as I possibly could. Reading books, that is. (<- I know this is not proper grammar..... just as this isn't) Reading blogs will just make you worse, in the end.

But, I do type fast. And it's nice to be able to go back and see where you typed 'teh' instead of 'the'.

Overall, if you want to learn to spell, pick up a book. That way your vocabulary will grow as well as your spelling/grammar skills.

Actually what I meant was using it in place of learning the grammar and spelling at all.  As I said it is a good tool for the purposes you stated exactly.

There are instances where you can't use it though and you should have a grasp of the language that you use in everyday life.

I was always fairly poor in grammar, just paying attention to others writings has helped me greatly... Still I'm far from a grammatical genius, but I feel most could learn a thing or three if they would just pay attention to others writings... A perfect example would be Dare... Like him or not, he made a huge improvement in his postings in just a few months...

I give folks the benefit of a doubt, but if their writings continue to look like a 2nd graders, I mostly ignore them... I've quit reading posts without spacing, punctuation and poor grammar in general...

BTW, I use Fire Fox as my browser and do rely fairly heavily on it's spell check feature... I can't spell all that well, but I know when it looks correct...

That's where it's really handy. The words I can't spell are words that 99% of the population would never use in the internet anyway! :hick:

I got a job today making $9 a hour insted of $7.25 that sonic was paying me so i will get both cars moving along and next year will be looking for my 3rd car i hope.

This did not get to much more messed up than the other 2 on different car forums all together so since i got a new job that will still let me fix up my cars then go ahead and mess this up some more or stop by and say something nice.

I was 5, my brother was 3. We had watched my dad mix up some cement the night before for a sidewalk repair. We said, "Hey...we have sand in the sandbox, and water from the garden hose, and dad left a bag of cement mix laying around, and here's the wheelbarrow..."

The rest is pretty much history. ;)

Carpimp, congrats on the job, buddy.

The half price burger incident sounds more like a last straw than a dismissal offense.

Are you sure you didn't get fired for your spelling and grammar?

A friend of mine had a great quote on jobs. "After you get your check for your two weeks' work, you and them are even."  In other words, they don't owe you another day and you don't owe them another day.  You just start it over again the next pay period if you both agree it's a good marriage.
