tomorrow, ill find some time to dig into the Oscar Myer web site and see who to contact.  Im pretty sure they are'nt even aware of the problem yet so ill handle it as such.  If i get a negative rub, ill end up asking around for advice so i dont waste time and being couterproductive.  I just want to let them know and find out who this guy is..........the originator of the message...

Sorry I started any flames.  Not getting into the liberal/conservative discusson.  I just think filing a suit over an adult-related mass e-mailing is a bit too much.  I don't buy into the whole "if you're offended, sue someone" idea.  It started with hot coffee at McDonald's and look what's happening now.

We deal with a lot of spam and related  at work. Most of the time, it's removing spyware/adware from peoples' computers because of something they picked up from an e-mail or website. Being that I've used Macs for almost 20 years, I've never had to deal with any of that...it was a real wake-up call to see all this stuff happening in the PC world. I used to feel sorry for people when it happened. But now I don't. When you see people bringing in their computers to have this  removed 3 and 4 and 5 times in a row, it's not the computer---it's a PEBCAK problem (Problem Exists Between Chair And Keyboard). My observation is that most people simply haven't been trained to use a PC properly, or that they just get in bad habits and don't want to change, even it it's for the better and could possibly eliminate problems.

At work we suggest that people routinely run Ad-Aware, Spybot and M$'s own spyware beta, and to discontinue the use of IE for the use of Firefox exclusively. If people actually listen to us, almost all of their problems go away. There is a LOT more security in Firefox right out of the box. Remember that most spyware uses IE's ActiveX controls to work...not a problem with the 'Fox. We also run a site that has a lot of advertising, and if we end up linking to a paid site that has anything malicious, we demand that they remove the offending portions or we'll just ban them, and they're still out their monthly fees. We won't put up with pop-ups of any kind.

I know that's not what happened in your case Scott. You did everything you could to prevent it, but still these things will proliferate. Once these sites get your e-mail address you are put on a spam list, and that's that. The most obvious and effective thing to do is to create an e-mail address solely for spam, and use that address everywhere you can. You control that address and where it's used, therefore you KNOW it's going to collect nothing but spam, and no legitimate e-mails. That leaves your real address safe from those sites. I guess it's just rough because we're dealing with a child, and you did what you thought was right to protect him. It's 2005 and that's still not enough. Your Spidey senses should be tingling whenever you see "18+" on a website....beware!!!

Definitely contact someone at those sites and let them know what's going on. But CALL them...you will get much better customer service if you talk to a real person. Let us know what happens.

i talked to kraft foods,, very very helpful.
towards the end of my talking with the CSR , she told me that her manager had instructions to direct me to the kraft IT "contact us" web site.

That really pissed me off and i was very nice up till this point.  I told her that i was just told in a reply on my topic here that this is the year 2005 and that this is the way things are.  I went on and explained that i dont subscribe to that way of thinking because if i did , it would only mean that things will get worse and we should accept them.  Further more,, i went on and explained that yes it is the year 2005 and we should be better rather than worse off.  I also explained that as long as we blame all of this on the year 2005, we are actually saying we dont want to work hard enough to prevent the problem and thus we can always put blame somewhere else and not having to accept responsibility...,,, sounds like six sigma to me.

I asked if she felt comfortable telling me to visit another web site to address this issue of kids and porno, further more did she fell comfortable with this being her only solution.  I also asked her if she felt this was the proper way to handle this by removing the human element from such an important problem and telling me to conduct my pornographic issue in a virtual enviroment.

i told her that maybe her supervisor sould be evaluated for his judgment call capablities on tough issues because it sounded like a quick bandaid answer typical of a call center setting.

she said,, well........ NO i dont think its right and maybe you should speak to someone else higher up,, i agree with you totally but no one has ever wanted to fill out an actual paper complaint form before. Im not sure how i get one in paper but leme transfer you to Paul lewis, our more experienced manager on this song contest.

I spoke with Paul and he will have someone call me in the near future with no exact time established but, in the near future.  We spoke for several minutes and after he evaluated my "properties" on the email i got,, he and an IT guy determined that there could be a problem with the song download and the company that handles this contract.

i was almost breathless when i heard that last word "contract" and simply kept my mouth shut.  at this point, its not about making enimies, but about identifing a problem and making good with my son.

Eric
