1984 Elan factory alarm issue

Hey all! Im excited to be a part of this website and im new here!!!
Not a noob to Tbirds although, through my lifetime since I was 16 (now 30) i have owned

1 1990 SC auto blue/blue
1 1991 SC 5 speed red/black leather
1 1990 SC anniv. Auto, converted to 5 speed
1 1995 SC 5 speed red/tan leather
1 1983 Heritage white/blue velour
1 1985 elan custom black/charcol interior
1 1989 LX (pos) red/grey
1 1987 TC 5 speed blue/blue cloth
1 1988 TC 5 speed(still have daily driver) white/red interior
1 1985 TC 5 speed white and primer/grey 2 tone leather
1 EX CHP 1985 5.0,

and now this 84 elan blue/blue leather  , this car is awesome! I converted the orig 5.0 setup to a 1991 mustang GT 5.0 and ECM and wiring harness. I tapped all the original accesories to operate with the mustang ecm as well.

Anyway I could ramble for hours. I was wondering, I do have a few issues with the bird since I picked it up 3 weeks ago. The factory alarm system will not set. I tried everything and the "ALARM" on the center console just keeps flashing away after I lock the doors. I know how to use the alarm system and activate one so im doing it correctly but Im baffeled. Has anyone ever ran into this issue? I have checked wiring and door actators in the doors for wiring breaks.

Thanks! Shawn

I have just located one section in one of my manuals for the 87 model that pinponts troubleshooting steps for a flashing alarm light.

There aint no way in h... im gonna type all this out but perhaps i might scan it to my diy link.

i think you best just call and i an read to you what i see and then you can run with it.

start vehicle and turn it off

verify warning lamp is off
,,if it flashes,, go to step A5

A5- verify circuit 341 (o/w termina) is greater than 9v

Fist step calls for "courtesy lamp door switch contacts may be shorted to B+ or inverter relay contacts are shorted to ground or relay is damaged"

Let me see if I understand this right.
You turn off the ignition and open the door. This starts the alarm light blinking. This is good At least the anti-theft module is not a total vegetable.

You lock the door with the door open. The alarm light is supposed to go from blinking to solid on. This doesn't happen.

For cars without keyless entry:
The same 12v that operates the lock actuator goes to the "arm" input, pin 6,  on the anti-theft module.

For cars with keyless entry:
Pin 8 of the keyless entry module goes to the arm input, pin G, of the anti-theft module. This happens when the keyless entry module operates the lock actuators.

I will post 7 pages from the 84 EVTM. However I can only do three at a time. My free space from my ISP is full. Right click and print them, then I'll post the next batch.

Well I figured it out! Pin H of the Anti Theft unit was constantly grounded. It is supposed to ground when the door lock actuator is turned to the lock position when the alarm is in a ready to arm state. Well someone replaced the lock and  installed the electrical lock switch in the driver door wrong. In turn, the alarm would not arm if the lock is turned while arming. Works like a charm now! Thanks for your help guys, I couldn't have done it without you!!
